My needs are simple, I don’t need auto-unlock or any advanced features. I just need to be able to make sure the door is locked without having to run the steps several times a day, or when I’m away from home. If a family member forgets to lock the deadbolt, I can do it from wherever I am. Very impressed with this lock. It is well made, and looks very nice on my door. Solid material and does not feel cheap at all. Installation was easy. No issues connecting to WiFi and I was able to integrate it with Home Assistant using the Yale/August integration. So far, this has worked very well. I have a Wyze lock on my other door but will probably replace it with another Yale Approach at some point.

I bought this just to have the option to not carry a key and to be able to unlock the door before I walk up to it with my arms full. Did not buy the key pad. It was easy to install, initially set up right away and worked, but I noticed that the calibration was off. If I unlocked the door with a key, the Yale would still show the door as locked. This was due to the lock not turning as far when using the key vs turning the knob inside. I tried to recalibrate it and only turning the inside knob just enough to pull the bolt back but the Yale lock freaked out. It made noise, flashed, and would not operate. I thought it had failed. The app linked me to email the Yale customer service with a video of what the issue was and photo of the adaptor I used. Based on some bad reviews, I figured I would have to wait a long time or not get a usable response. I was wrong, received a response right away with a recommendation to use the blue adaptor instead of the yellow adaptor I was using for my Schalge deadbolt. I swapped the adaptor, calibrated it, and it worked. It also does not have the original calibration issue. I have been using it for almost a month and the only minor issue is with the app. Sometimes the lock will not operate in the app unless I select Home and then the lock even though that's where I was to begin with. I had read a lot of bad reviews about this and almost did not buy it but it's exactly what I wanted. It's a basic way to operate the door lock with an app, so I gave it a try. I noticed one bad review with a video where the reviewer apparently did not know how to assemble a door lock. This Yale lock goes on the inside of the door and replaces just the lever/knob. You keep the outside and the bolt of the old lock.

perfect fix for that ditzy stepdaughter that comes in the door and forgets to lock it behind her at night. (every time!) Pros: the autolock system locks the door when you close it, and that was the main feature I was looking for. everything else was a bonus being able to lock and unlock it remotely, plus inform my phone when the door is opened, closed, locked or unlocked. you can even let yourself or somebody else in the door without keys remotely from your phone. Cons: set up isn't quite as straightforward and there are some learning curves and glitches during install. once you get it installed and calibrated, it works pretty well. Note: but it doesn't always work! 99% of the time it will auto lock just fine. 1% of the time it doesn't do anything when you close the door and doesn't even know if the door is open opened or closed. that is an issue if you get into the habit of leaving the house, closing the door behind you and thinking the door is locked. it probably is?!?!

Easy install and I didn't have to change keys for the deadbolt. First one had a bad bluetooth chip but the replacement is working great so far! App could work a little faster but other than that we have enjoyed the benefits of remote locking and unlocking. Also means I can create entryway for visitors like dog walkers and relatives.

Having used smart locks for over a decade, I refuse to live without them. After downsizing to an apartment that forbids replacing the original deadbolt, my smart lock options were limited to only "retrofit" locks. Not a lot of options: Phillips has a retrofit lock, Switchbot and August (which Yale bought). But ultimately chose the Yale Approach since it was the OG brand of locks I remember from back in the day. That trust was a mistake. This product makes me never want to buy a Yale lock again. Please heed the "frequently returned item" warning on the listing. The setup process is a total nightmare. There is no physical manual, and the app fails to guide you through installation in a logical sequence. I spent 3 hours setting up, 2 of that spent troubleshooting why the Wi-Fi bridge wouldn't connect, only to discover it strictly requires a 2.4GHz band (a huge hassle with modern mesh or T-Mobile 5G Home Internet). Do most smart home devices require 2.4ghz wifi, yes sure, but say that explicitly during set up, I shouldn't have to scour the internet to troubleshoot something so basic. Beyond that, the required "DoorSense" hardware is an ugly extra sensor tab you must stick to your door frame. Because I am renting, I cannot screw it in, so we have bumped it loose a dozen times already. The design hardware choices feel entirely outdated. Requiring 4 AA batteries instead of rechargeable USB-C power feels absurd for a "smart" home device (and yes I've owned smart locks that charged via USB C and had zero problems with them whatsoever). And needing a separate Wi-Fi bridge in this day and age is clunky. I get that the point is to have remote access but I wouldn't even trust that because..... Worst of all this lock cannot be trusted with basic security. The app frequently lies about the door status, reporting it locked when it is literally wide open. Auto-lock locked me out with my phone still inside when I went to grab the mail (no one was home to let me in so you know that ruined my day). Auto-un-lock is far too glitchy to rely on. I always do a sweep of my home because who knows, maybe its lying to me again and my home was in fact unlocked all day long and not just when I arrived back. Finally, do not buy this base model without the keypad/ fingerprint reader, because you will eventually get locked out -- it is not smart enough to NOT require the keypad so I have no idea why they sell it without.

The lock is great, installation is a breeze. The item I received was obviously a returned item, however, box unsealed, plastic scratch protectors neatly attached to the underside of the lid. It looks fine, no damage, but I will return in a paper bag if it doesn't work so that the next purchaser doesn't have factory packaging!

Be careful when ordering outside of the US. Initial setup requires a US phone number and location to activate. The bridge doesn't work because it's based on geographical location. It is a nice door lock once you get pass the initial setup and being ok with half the features if you're not located in the US. I'd go with Eufy smart lock (previously owed) personally if I had to purchase another smart lock.

If you hate digging around for keys, you need this. I hate keys. They are a pain to carry in your hand or dig out of the bottom of your bag. Cars have made it possible to get around this for a while, so I'm glad my home finally has this option as well. I really like that from the outside this still looks like any ordinary lock. Nobody even has a reason to think that it could be accessed through my network. It was so easy to install. I've been using it for a while now and haven't had any issues. It hasn't ever dropped from my network and it hasn't ever failed to unlock as I approach my door. It's really nice to tell she's to lock the door from the second floor instead of going down the stairs to check. One time the door wasn't quite closed all the way and couldn't lock. The feedback it gave was perfect. There was no question whether or not my home was secured. There is a hidden bonus to this too. I used to be prone to forgetting my phone at home. Since I now lock the door through the app, I realize as soon as I'm leaving whether I have my phone or not. Can't leave without it now unless it's on purpose and I use the physical key.
