This project was so much fun!!
I have a large houseboat and wanted to gel coat part of my fly deck. The space I treated was 20 by 38 ft. I used a 3/4 inch roller to give the gelcoat surface a slightly rippled surface. The MEK was mixed at 1% (two tsp of MEK per Quart. I just poured the gelcoat onto the deck and used a broom handle to apply the mixture. After applying one quart, I simply went back to my table and made up another quart. I used a plastic 2 qt. paint bucket to mix. I have never done this before and was a bit skittish. I should not have been!! It was so easy and I only used 1 1/2 gallons of the gel coat. The coverage was absolutely amazing!! I applied a second coat to some of the rougher surfaces with no trouble at all. I let the mixture set overnight, but was pretty well hardened in an hour. The result was fantastic. I had to remove a couple of insects from the gel coat, but a quick brush over the surface fixed it just fine. This is a five star gel coat and I had so much fun. I used painter's tape to trim the surface area. Go to you tube and check out the info there. Have fun!!

Gel coat provided good results
I used this white gel coat with wax to repair deep scratches from dock damage on my 23' sailboat . Per the instructions, the gel coat container was shaken well to ensure wax completely mixed with the epoxy. The gel coat epoxy and hardener were then measured and mixed together per the instructions. I sanded and cleaned the damaged area previously and applied the gel coat using a 1/2 inch water color brush. The bright white finish is smooth, hard, and matches the original hull color very well.

Good stuff, but buyer beware.
It's tricky ordering gelcoat online, and while this gelcoat did all it was supposed to, you have to make sure you understand the size you are ordering. I've read that some have been fooled by the image and ended up with too little for the job. I didn't make that mistake, but the company here isn't very helpful in other areas. The package only included a small instruction, and failed to mention that the gelcoat would eat a Solo cup. I kinda made a mess. Also, make sure you understand that you can't tint the white very well. I got purple. Oops.

This is an excellent product worth every bit of the money spent. It is superior in strength and repairing boats. Best product to use.

Drying time and finish not ideal
Product took more than a day to harden. Hardener was precisely measured using a syringe. It was applied in several thin coats and lightly sanded between coats. I was after a textured surface so it did not bother me that it did not flatten much when applied via roller. However, if a smooth finish is sought, this product did not perform well. One would think that a slow setting product would flatten better, but it clearly did not. THat said, I was happy with the final result as the textured fiberglass surface serves me well and remains hard, low-slip and stain free.
