Singapore offers a steaming fusion of food, shopping, culture, and start-up creativity all uniquely nestled in a city ringed by shrines, rainforests, and resorts. Gone are the days when outsiders struggled to pinpoint Singapore on a map; this equatorial city-state is making waves across myriad sectors from health to logistics. Its skyline has taken shape at a blistering pace with numerous attention-grabbing architectural accents. Singapore can still surprise though: quaint colonial-era shop houses sit anachronistically nestled alongside skyscrapers; temples, mosques, and churches share the same streets and open-air food courts sell tasty street food just steps away from fine-dining establishments. With a decidedly global outlook, the country embraces all things hi-tech and modern while having one foot firmly rooted in tradition. The Monocle Travel Guide to Singapore will equip you with the know-how to explore beyond the obvious. We've scoured the city-state for the top restaurants and kueh (confectionery) shops and listed the independent retailers selling goods that embody the best of 'brand Singapore'. Out of date
Thought as it was still on sale publisher would have checked it was still mostly accurate. Sadly not - pandemic has wiped out about half of the places mentioned in many sections. Potentially good if updated.

The new standard for travel guides
Without a doubt, the Monocle Travel Guide Series has become my favorite travel publication. Fodors, Frommers, Rick Steves and everyone else should take notice. This is my second Monocle Travel Guide, my first being Hong Kong I used in September. I am impressed with the attention to detail; "Things We Would Buy," essays from locals and visitors, built in book mark and much more. This is the only book you need to plan and experience your travels. A slim decorative hard cover, no need to worry about wear and tear on the guide during your travels. The only recommendation we would make, include a map insert that can be taken out of the book. Lots of great map cross sections, but an overall removable map of the city is the only thing missing. Our travel plans have been made easier with Monocle and no longer a need to carry 4 travel guides and take up valuable space. Highly recommend, Monocle is rewriting the travel world.

Auf dem Einband steht " it will equip you with the know-how to explore beyond the obvious" - das habe ich leider kaum gefunden.
