Does it run in batteries ?

Hi, no sorry, this requires a power cord to plug into the wall (included with the product.)

I have arturia software synths on my imac. if i connect the minibrute 2 using the usb connection on the back panel will it play the software synths?

I never checked, since i use a Midi controller keyboard for playing softsynths. In principle it should be possible to use it as a simple midi controller. You will only be able to use the keyboard, not other parts of the synth like the filter etc. (Possibly the arp and sequencer.)

does this come with the cookbook for getting started ?

Yes it does. It is inside a big envelope. Very useful, especially in case it is your (analog) synth.

Does this product come with patch cables?

It does come with 6 small, braided patch cables. I believe they are 6 or 8 inches in length.
