Paddington Treasury (Paddington Bear)

I read some of Paddington Bear in my 4th grade reading group in school, and was recently reminded of the book when The Gap sent me an email, introducing a PB inspired line for kids. I immediately went to amazon and searched for this collection. The price can vary greatly, as it doesn't seem there is a recent version of this entire collection. So I bought this on amazon from a private seller, 2nd hand, and I'm very pleased with it. The dust jacket was slightly wrinkled, but I don't care about that at all (and often take dust jackets off books for my 1 and 4 year old anyway). I'm reading this with my 4-year-old son and it's a great book for him. He doesn't like "scary" books or books with "bad guys" or too much stress or conflict, so this fits the bill. When he was 3, we read all the Pooh books, and they were great for him too. This is a sort of natural progression from Pooh. It may not be perfect for every small child, as there aren't a lot of pictures (and you often have 2 pages in a row, open book, with no pictures, and the pages are large and filled with text, so you can be reading for several minutes while the child has no picture to look at). It also uses adult vocabulary (but Pooh pretty much did, as well), but it's a great way to explain various words and increase a child's vocabulary, as well (and teach about other countries, like Peru and England, and the geography of the two--we've looked at a globe several times to talk about Paddington's route from Peru to England in the boat, and to learn why it was hotter in Peru, by seeing how close it is to the equator vs. England). So while it may be over my son's head sometimes, it's a good learning tool at those times too. It's a really fun book to read with a child, and I am very pleased to have found it.

My mom wanted to buy me a Paddington book for my birthday celebration as something to remind me of my youth when she would read the original Paddington book to me. I thought it was very thoughtful of her, she however didn't have much success finding a Paddington book with much content in it and purchased a modernized thin book after the new Paddington movie. Again this was very thoughtful but I told her let me see what I could find online? So I did some checking and found the Paddington Treasury book and knew it was exactly what I wanted. I thought it was such a neat book that what was suppose to be a gift for me, turned into me ordering one copy for me which my mom would pay for, and one copy for her which I would pay for. I appreciated so much her desire to buy me something so thoughtful. I knew she'd really enjoy it and be very surprised! So the first copy came and I wrote a note on the package and gave it to her as her copy. She was very surprised and we both looked at it and think its really exceptional! The Treasury has 35 stories and artwork that is after the original artwork so it really brings you back to that special and unique time of childhood.I feel that anyone who has ever appreciated the Paddington stories would enjoy this collection and it would certainly be a great way to tie a parents fond memories of childhood into the life and memories of their own children through sharing and reading to and with them.Great job on putting this collection together!

Paddington bear is one of my favourite stories. This is a classic treasury. It starts of at the very beginning where Mr and Mrs Brown meet him for the very first time at the railway station and how he is named Paddington. Paddington is from the darkest Peru. He is not used to the way of life in England. He has impeccable manners but without fail finds himself in the stickiest, funniest situations. It's a classic story with good values and simple basics of life. Definitely a good book to snuggle up with under the covers with your little one. My children are much too young to read it on their own, but I enjoy reading it to them for now, and the enjoy listening to it. I think Paddington bear is a must have for all ages!

This is a wonderful book. Each story is great and doesn't seem to be missing any parts like other reviews said. I read it to my 3 and 8 year old and they love it, it's the perfect length. I highly recommend this book!

Bought this as a nostalgic gift for my Mother. She absolutely loved it. These are the original stories, not the simplified ones for younger readers.

Shipping was fast. Packaging was intact.Two of the books are narrated by Jim Broadbent. Quality of reading is not as remotely as good as Stephen Fry who is on the other CDs. Quality of recording on Broadbent CD's is erratic with whispering and shouting voices.

The books about Paddington are a treasure for both children and parents. They are classic children's literature and make you forget how old you are, even though you may be turning seventy five. This lovable bear is one of my childhood's most treasured characters and the drawings are simply wonderful.

A wonderful collection of wonderful Paddington Bear stores. I especially enjoyed the water color highlighting of the original line drawing illustrations by the artist's granddaughter. A wonderful keepsake, to be sure!

cd was fine spoke to my grandson said that he couldn't listen to cd as it scared him it turns out he found Stephen Fry's voice frightening strange but that was his feelings he is only 5
