Easier to use and cheaper and than the Intermatic
We needed to move our pool timer from a covered patio to an unprotected area. Our pool guy recommended that we stick with Intermatic because "that's what everybody has." However, the price of a weatherproof Intermatic was really high, and I do not like the clumsy and imprecise tabs. Needing pliers or a wrench to change the settings felt like living in the dark ages. Since we were doing a lot of rewiring, we had an electrician install the timer. Simply swapping out the timer seems like a DIY job. The digital interface allows us to exactly match the low-cost electricity times from our utility. I can set a different schedule for the weekends. Once the timer is set, there is one button to toggle the system on/off (like the Intermatic). After a couple of weeks our pool guy said, "I really like this new timer." I was concerned about heat. The timer is facing east on the block wall separating our neighbors with no overhead protection, so it gets quite a bit of direct sunlight and radiant heat through the wall. It's been over 110 degrees for 30 days in a row here, and the timer is still working fine. Like others have said, the tabs keeping the door closed are pretty stiff. Be sure to secure it very well to the wall since you'll be putting a lot of pressure on the housing every time you open it. I'm considering cutting off one of the tabs or modifying it in some other way to make the door easier to open.

Arrived promptly and works great
This was very easy to install. Since this is for an outdoor application, I used liquid flexible conduit, water proof connectors/interfaces and outdoor wire. I used water-proof connectors throughout and redid the connection to the pool pump as that was shorting out whenever it rained heavily and wouldn't stop shorting to ground for a week or two. This started after the heavy rains during the remnants of a tropical storm in the fall of 2011 that caused flooding throughout our area and left a film of dirt on the bottom of our pool. This replaced a mechanical timer that no longer worked properly. I will rework it and use it for other applications if I can make it work again. The product was very easy to wire up. I am using it in 110 V mode. The power comes in and you connect the common and the hot wires to the appropriate terminals. Do the same out to the load using the load out terminals which for me is the pool pump. You then wire in a 3 way switch into the switch terminals. I just wired all the grounds together in the box. It would have been nice if they provided a ground terminal for all the connections but this is unnecessary. The common and hot wires establish the 110 V levels or 220 V levels if you were to run that type of load. There are cutouts for all the connectors where the wires come in. I just used a pocket knife to remove the appropriate sized cutout. I would have thought that the cutouts could have been made easier to remove but making sure it maintains waterproof properties is very important so I would prefer that they err on the side of maintaining waterproof properties. I am very happy with the programmability. Seven days and one on and one off event per day which is enough for my application. With the external switch all the functionality I need was there. The override can also can be done internally at the display but the external switch makes it super easy. I can't complain, you can pay alot more for similar functionality in a digital timer switch box. So this did exactly what I wanted it to do and I am very happy. So long as it lasts a long time I will continue to be happy. If I can edit this review later, I will let you know how it lasts over time. But so far, no complaints.

Does Exactly What I Needed It To Do
I am so happy with how this timer works. After putting in a mini-split air conditioning system and putting a smart timer on the big central air conditioning system, my biggest monthly peak-demand energy use would always come from the water heater. We never exceeded about 1.5 KWh during peak demand hours (3 PM to 8 PM) with one exception. Unavoidably at least once or more per month, someone would take a shower or bath during the peak energy demand hours. That one bath or shower alone would cost over $50 or more by raising the months peak energy use during those peak-demand hours. That's where this timer comes in. This timer attaches to our water heater and is set to turn off water heating between 3 PM and 8 PM. Now our bathing hours have no affect on our peak demand energy usage. One of us took a shower last night at 5:00 and another at 6:00. There was plenty of hot water available to us from our 50 gallon hot water tank with the heating turned off by this timer. Then at just after 8:00, the hot water heater kicked on (via this timer) and re-heated the colder water in the tank during off-peak hours. Just last night alone I saved more in energy costs than what I paid for this timer. That's a full return on investment in less than the first twenty-four hours of use. I know that because I logged in to the Arizona Public Service website this morning, in to my personal account there. You can see there, exactly how much energy you used there for each hour of the twenty-four hour day. Between 5 PM and 8 PM yesterday, the peak demand never exceeded 1.5 KWh. But at 8:00 (we were asleep by then) a huge 4.5 KW spike happened in our energy use as timer kicked on and the colder water in the tank was re-heated during off-peak hours. This spike is typical when we use that much heated water. But now, It'll never happen again during peak demand hours. The affect on our lifestyle is no effect at all, except we save money. I hired an electrician to install this timer so that the job would look professionally done. The timer was very easy to program with a five-minute learning curve. We used the external switch feature so that my non-techie sweetheart could turn the timer on and off herself if necessary, without needing to open the box and figure out how to use the control buttons there if she ever needs to turn the timer on or off herself.

This is a nice timer, it could be better with a few tweaks
This is a nice 220v timer (110v capable) that could have been perfect with a few tweaks. Nonetheless, it represents a good value, and probably one of the best single-device timer available in a reasonable price range. This was installed to replace a mechanical Intermatic mechanical timer. The reason for replacement was two-fold: most importantly, the Intermatic is only a daily timer, and not capable of running something twice a week. The other reason was the timer is 22 years old, the motor was noisy, and was replaced to avoid failure. Straight-away be aware that this cannot independently control multiple devices; you can certain attach multiple devices, but they'll be controlled by the same schedule. That also means you cannot mix 110v and 220v on this timer. The box is plastic which is good because it eliminates any chance of electrical shock, even if a ground wire fails. However, the three knockouts on the bottom of the box are difficult to remove and you will probably end up cracking the gaps in between the knockouts. I highly recommend using a hole saw to remove precisely the opening you want. Unfortunately, there were no knockoffs on the side, so I used a hole saw to mimic the existing conduit runs and simplify installation. Use common sense when doing this so you don't drill into the mechanism. There is plenty of space in the box to bring multiple conduits together, but unfortunately, the screw terminals aren't really designed for this purpose. Your choice is to use a wire nut and bring a single lead out to the terminal or carefully put the wire on either side of the screw. This is a huge miss on Honeywell's part. The box is very hard to open, which is a good thing. It keeps people out unless they really need to get in there. On the other hand, it makes it difficult to control the timer manually, but Honeywell thought of that and added a set of terminals that let you override the timer and turn it on. I mounted a marine grade panel switch on the bottom to turn the pump on manually., The timer is straight out of 1995, but it's functional. You can have up to 7 independent events. The on/off is set down to the minutes, so the minimum run time is 1 minute. You can either set up an event to be on a particular day or every day. Since this was for a polaris pump, I used two timers, one to run the polaris on Monday for an hour, the other event to run the polaris on Thursday for an hour. It looks attractive enough, it's a good value, and it appears to be reliable. Please note that I purchased an amazon return, and I believe the reason it was returned is the first purchaser had the 110v/220v switch flipped in the wrong direction and simply returned it. Amazon as usually handled it fine, but be aware that returns may not be innocent. In summary: Pros: Flexible Timer, simple to set up and install, seems to have a battery backup, and programming is straightforward, secure box, terminals provided to have external override switch which works great, on/off times as little as 1 minute Cons: Plastic case is brittle and can crack, all knockouts are on the bottom and very difficult to remove, screw terminal are too small and are not robust, and programming could be a little more flexible

Great timer perfect for pool pump operation.
Bought this to replace a custom built pool timer we have used for 25+ years and finally died. In short, couldn't be happier with this unit. Programming was super easy. Turns on our pool pump every day at 6 pm and off every morning at 6 am, so the pump motor does not run during the hottest part of the day here in Kentucky. We added a switch and waterproof cover through the 3-way connection. That allows us to turn on the pump when the timer has turned it off and turn off the pump when the timer has turned it on...really easy to wire in that switch and it is really helpful...without it you need to open the box up every time you want to bypass the timer. I will add photos to this later.

Work great !!
Works as intended. After a year of use it has made our pool more usable because the pump runs on a schedule, instead of when I am home to turn it on/off. No issues w/ algae blooms, and pool warms up by running pump in the middle of the day w/ the solar cover in place (recirculates cold water from the deep end up to the solar cover, where it is warmed). Must know how to do somewhat complex electrical work, using water-tight fittings, but otherwise, installation was easy. Easy to program, and override with a manual On/Off button.

Professional and so usefull with the Three Way Switch
I bought one HONEYWELL TI040, then I bought a second, because they substituted the unreliable digital INTERMATIC. # No more geckos coming in and destroy by contacting because it is really hermetic # Even with disruption of our volatile electricity in the jungle they do not loose the program any more for days and weeks, like I had before. # The best: it is the CONTACTS for a SEPARATE Three Way Switch to override and switch on or off until the next program continues. This switch can be anywhere and it helps me for quick on and off near the pump when backwash or switching the Heater. # The buttons are working and working (My Intermatic timer lost the function of buttons within 1 to 2 years) # I love the intuitive handling, easy nothing much to remember and I can be quickly checking or changing the programs. # Industrial quality in comparision (I own also Timers from Tork, Dewenwill, Intermatic), most reliable with our many Voltage problems every day, only this Honeywell and Dewenwill goes on without errors. Having read other reviews before using the first time, it was clear to me to open the prepared holes with a good circular saw, never with a hammer like you can do with metal cases. No rust with that solid plastic. (Intermatic get quickly corrosion in my protected areas under roof but with metal bar door.)

Read this before purchasing this unit.
This timer was purchased in September 2024, used for 2 months in the fall then shut down for the winter in October and pump removed for winterizing. When reinstalled in early May 2025, the timer no longer functions as designed. It is set to turn on at 7:00 a.m. and turn off at 8:30 a.m., on again at 6:00 p.m. and off again at 7:30 p.m. it now runs for 4 minutes then shuts off 24 hours per day, after reseeting to factory settings and reprogrammed. Randomly it turns back on throughout the day at any given time and runs for 4 minutes then it shuts off. All wiring is done by a certified electrician and has been verified as in new condition. It is pushing a two horsepower Goulds pump and was working flawlessly last fall. Paying $86 for a timer that lasts for 3 months of use is unacceptable. Hoping the company will read this and contact me so I can send it back. Time will tell as only a 30-day window on AMZ. Very disappointing, should have bought an off-brand for half the price.

Great product
This product i found was really easy to install. I am a fully licensed electrician, but I do feel that anyone would be able to put this up and wire it in because of how basic it is. The programming on the other hand I find it way to sensitive. You could easy throw off the timing by accidently clicking a button. I would hope that they change it to a push and hold style to change rather then the way they got it now. They do use the push and hold to go from auto to manual and push and hold to change programs however it would make more sense if they reversed those. Product is really good however and those things that I pointed out are just my preference faults nothing major
