Unless your 5-7 year-old is an absolute prodigy with a yoyo and coordinated well beyond his or her meager years, no. Additionally, this is a metal yoyo. A small child can unintentionally do quite a bit of damage with it, both to property and self. For younger players, a responsive plastic yoyo with a ball bearing axle and rubber response pads is highly recommended. It has an auto-return feature that can be switched off.

Why does my yoyo keep responding even though it is a in responsive yoyo?

If you are lubricating your unresponsive bearing with a lubrication designed for responsive play, it can make your unresponsive yoyo responsive. You shouldn't have to go through all the trouble of cleaning it, though. Merely lube it with unresponsive lubricant (also, this should be lubricant designed specifically for yoyos so as not to damage it) and it should thin out the thicker responsive play lubricant enough to get it to not respond.
