Great, inexpensive semi in ear buds
This is my first venture into Xiaomi buds. I'm not disappointed. My wife can NOT use in ear buds with silicone or foam tips. They irritate her ear canals pretty quickly. She LOVED the old school Apple wired, semi in ear earpods and how those fit in her ears. She did like the freedom of her wireless Soundcore buds, but those irritated her ears pretty quickly. I dug around, did my research, and found these. I had a few criteria: wireless; semi in ear; as close to the shape of Apple earpods or Airpods as possible; at least BT 5.4 and multipoint connection capable, so they can work seamlessly with her laptop and phone; preferably $50 or less; from a reputable company; must sound good, however subjective that requirement is; available on Amazon, as that's a good indication of product support. I have Tozo NC20s myself, and those are awesome, but didn't meet the semi in ear requirement. Soundcore, JBL, Apple, etc all had buds that met all criteria EXCEPT for price. Basically, it came down to these and the Soundpeats Air 5 Lite. I chose these, as they're a bit less expensive, a little smaller and slimmer, and I've personally owned multiple Xiaomi phones in the past and have never been disappointed. First, these meet ALL criteria I had, with one small caveat. I'll get to that. They sound great. ANC doesn't exist and passive noise cancellation is very meh at best. But that's to be expected with semi in ear buds... they don't seal to the ear canal and can not physically block noise. The huge 14mm drivers let these produce sound that defy their price. Bass is deep. Really deep for buds that don't seal into the ears. Treble and mids are clean, loud, and distinct. Nothing is distorted or muddy. And these things are LOUD. Everything sounds great. These are NOT equal to a $300 set of Sennheiser buds, but they ARE one ninth the price. Multipoint works great. I paired these with her phone painlessly. Google Fast Pair picked these up when I opened the case and removed all the plastic, and paired them quickly. Then I turned BT off on her phone, put the buds back in pairing mode manually (long press the pairing button), and connected them to her laptop with no issues. Then I reactivated BT on her phone. Now these pair seamlessly and effortlessly. Pull the buds out of the case, and they connect to both devices simultaneously. No fuss. I can disconnect from one device or the other manually easily enough, and they'll still auto pair to both next time. Simple. No more real faffing about. She says these are MUCH more comfortable than her old Soundcore buds, and she doesn't have to faff about with manual BT connecting. And she says they sound better. I agree. I can't really speak to battery life just yet, but they seem to be doing swimmingly after a full day of use. Here's the caveat. Where I live, in the USA, I can't download the Xiaomi Earbuds App from the Google app store. It's not available in this region. These WILL work perfectly fine without the app installed, but I downloaded the latest version and side loaded it anyhow for three reasons. First, firmware updates. You need the app for that. Second, gesture setup on the earbud stems. Ditto. Third, custom EQ settings. Also ditto. So, I'll have to manually update the Xiaomi app periodically to make sure I have an up to date version, but for the performance these things offer, that's a small trade off. I'm very, VERY satisfied with these, especially for under $35. Great product.

Bon plan

REDMI Buds 8 Active vs REDMI Buds 6 Active - Sleeping comparison
Technically, the audio quality on the REDMI Buds 8 Active is a bit better sounding than the REDMI Buds 6 Active. The 8 has more detail than the 6. They both have the same amount of bass, even after playing around with the EQ in the app. The REDMI Buds 8 Active also features multipoint Bluetooth pairing (being able to be connected to two Bluetooth devices simultaneously) which the 6 lack. The 8 also has a more customizable manual EQ in the iPhone/Android app, even though the 6 still features basic sound EQ presets in the app. However, the 8 has a problem: even if you disable all of the touch controls of the earbuds via the app, the earbuds still makes a loud ”CLICK!” sound effect every time you touch the earbuds, meaning you might accidentally wake up from this noise if you accidentally touch them when sleeping with them in. The REDMI Buds 6 Active don’t have this problem since they don’t have this ”CLICK!” sound effect when accessing the touch controls. Also, it feels like the Buds 8 Active has a somewhat bulkier case, as well as (subjectively) a less cool design (no transparency into the electronics!). The earbuds appears to have the same dimensions, though I for some reasons find the REDMI Buds 6 Active more comfortable when sleeping on my side with my ear pressed into the pillow. The REDMI Buds 6 Active also doesn’t have a low battery or power off notification sound, meaning they just go silent when the battery runs out - which is great for sleeping with them in. For casual and everyday daily use, I would choose the REDMI Buds 8 Active. For side-sleepers, I would stick with the REDMI Buds 6 Active.
