Yes it smells bad, but it WORKS. After using this only one time, I have had no flakes and no itchy dry scalp for the entire week. I don’t think i’ll be needing to use it very often since it works so well, so i’m sure the bottle will last me a long time. Best dandruff shampoo i have ever used.

This shampoo is equivalent to Nutragena T-gel shampoo. I have scalp and ear psoriasis and this shampoo keeps it controlled. I find the Amazon brand just as effective as T-gel with a better price. This is a Coal tar shampoo and does have an odor it. I use a pleasantly scented conditioner and I don’t notice the tar aroma on my hair. If you have scalp issues like psoriasis or eczema I highly recommend this shampoo.

I hate to say it because this product literally smells like gasoline but it works perfectly. My scalp has never been better after using this product for a month. The dandruff/itchiness has almost completely gone away. I can’t emphasize enough how badly it smells. Like 10x worse than regular t-gel. I tried shampooing twice with a different shampoo after use and my hair still stunk. Once my hair dries I can’t smell it anymore but if you are sensitive to smells then that is definitely something to consider.

Works very well, very quickly. The smell is truly repulsive but it’s worth the improvement.

This is amazing. No more itching after just one shampoo. It did not leave my hair dry like the T gel shampoo did. It is a third the price of T gel and works better. The smell truly lasts too which is good because I like the clean smell. This actually left my hair feeling softer than it was before. It was packaged so there was no leakage.

This product works great to help with itching skin. It smells fresh too. It's thick, not watery. Great product!

I’m a review reader. I seen so many people talking about the odor and was concerned. It is in no way that they describe unless they got a product I didn’t. While it’s sitting on your head while you’re in the shower then I can agree that it’s very noticeable. Then you rinse it out. No problem after that. Odor is gone. My dermatologist told me to use this 2-3 times a week.I’ve only used it twice now and am writing the review to calm anyone’s nerves about this stench that was too often mentioned. Nothing to it really. It will smell like the active ingredient but I feel they’ve done a great job of making it where the odor vanishes after use. I’ve only used it twice and am noticing positive effects. Had been using other prescription shampoo but this is already looking like it’ll be the winner. Best of luck to you all. I had brain surgery leaving me pretty scarred up and skin irritated years later. I’m excited this project exists at the price point it costs. Good luck all finding what works for you. I really wanted to love this Amazon Basics Therapeutic Plus Coal Tar Shampoo, especially since it’s at a great price point compared to the name brands. On the positive side, you can tell the formula is potent and high-quality. It definitely feels like a "therapeutic" grade product, and for some people with severe scalp issues, this strength is probably exactly what they need. ​However, I found the formula to be a bit too strong for my personal needs. While I was looking for a deep clean, it didn't quite leave my scalp feeling as refreshed or "clean" as I had hoped. Instead of soothing my irritation, it felt a little overwhelming, and I didn't see the results I was looking for after several uses. ​I also noticed that the shampoo is definitely on the heavier side. It has a thick consistency that lingered a bit too long, and I struggled to rinse it out completely. If you have very thick hair or a sensitive scalp, just be aware that this is a heavy-duty treatment. It’s a solid product for the price, but it just wasn't the right match for my specific scalp type.
