High and dry
We have started camping in our SUV but wanted a bit more room and an awning. This tent fits the bill and works great. When we unpacked the tent we were impressed with how thick and strong the fabric felt. Everything needed to set it up was included in the bag including instructions and a QR code to a video. It was not complicated to set up. Attaching it to the car was easy. It is a bit snug on the hatch of a Toyota Sequoia but this does not seem to cause an issue. Setting it up the first time can take a little extra time since you need to tie the 6 cords to the awning. After that initial setup, it goes on in just a few minutes. The bag is also plenty big enough to fit everything back inside. One thing I was not sure about from the listing was if the whole thing can be zipped shut. The answer is yes it can. The awnings can be rolled up and the roof section can zip over the mesh for complete privacy. However, we found this isn't really needed. The awning provides plenty of privacy while still allowing for ventilation. Our second time out with this tent it rained cats and dogs all night. We thought we might wake up in the middle of the lake. The tent kept us completely dry. The tent is different from ordinary tent material. It has a thick plastic coating on the inside so it will not leak even if you touch it. We are very pleased with this purchase and look forward to camping even more.

Fits a Jeep Patriot
This tent is an excellent choice for anyone looking to upgrade their car camping experience. However, it is not meant for the solo camper. You will need a minimum of two people to set this up appropriately if you choose to use the awning portion. The awning is amazing for keeping the rain out of the car, however it is a bit on short side. I am 5โ4 and had to duck to get under the balcony. Also, when you use the awning you will need to ensure you are camping somewhere that is stake friendly. The awning requires the use of stakes and has very long cables that attach to the stakes. I wish the cables were shorter because I was tripping over them the entire time, as well as the awning a couple feet taller. Without the awning, this is a perfect set up, unless you are camping in the rain. The screen for the back does not have rain protection other than the awning. The zipper works well from the outside, however it is rather difficult to use from the inside. I actually just used the car doors & ended up shutting the hatch during the night. It is a beautiful and well crafted tent, but it was not very functional for me. I think this would be perfect for a couple looking for a little something extra in their camping experience, like keeping the hatch open. But for the solo camper or someone camping in cooler temperatures it may not be the best fit. The return process was very easy and I would recommend trying it.

Great value and quality for the cost!
This Himal suv tent/canopy seems to be a nice affordable well made piece of camping gear. I purchased this to use with my Tesla Model Y. The fit is decent for a Tesla Model Y, however it could be better. There are some gaps on sides where it doesnโt โcinchโ to the car. I hope to better that with some rubber based magnets. Not a deal breaker for me at all though. The setup with one person wasnโt terrible, however I had a few struggles getting the poles to stay up while I staked the guy lines. Attach the lines to the flaps before setting it up for the first time. Itโll make things a bit easier. The tent/canopy seems pretty durable and has multiple functional options which is nice. While writing this review, there was only a light breeze and no rain so I canโt speak to its wind resistance or water proofing. Iโll update my review in the future when I experience more wind or rain. All in all, the Himal SUV tent/canopy is a great value and a solid piece of kit for my camping weekends. I would recommend this product.

I give it 4 1/2 stars, 5 if for a few things...
This is going to fit my needs for upcoming road trips in my 2019 Subaru Outback Wagon with 2.5L engine. I had spent weeks researching other SUV tents and such and then realized that I don't NEED a 4-6+ person tent for mostly me and occasionally a plus one. An SUV Canopy is what I REALLY need and this one looks like it'll work great. I looked at quite a few other canopies but settled on this one. Was a little concerned there was only 7 reviews at the time I ordered, all without any pics, but those 7 people seemed to think this was a winner and I agree! I think I'm gonna love this for quite while as it seems to be pretty stout when all cinched down. This canopy really opens up the rear end for a bit of privacy as well as a sun shade & will greatly enhance the camping experience. I set it up in my side yard for its initial test run. Small size bag when first un-packaging. 2 decent poles and 6 small stakes with 6 rope ties laid out right on top. Although the instructions are attached to the inside of the bag, more as pics than text, they aren't exactly clear and don't highlight the important focal points to look for when assembling. I assembled this for the first time, by myself, on a slightly windy day. How long did it take you ask? Wasn't concerned about timing myself and I stopped several times to backtrack or to take pics, which I've got plenty more, or to take another drink of my beer. Now that I've got it up and see how it fits together, I think I can put it completely up by myself in 20-mins or so, maybe less by the 3rd or 4th time of road trippin'. After seeing how it all fits on my car, I moved a couple of the suggested strapping points in the instructions to different locations that allow me to use all 4 car doors without strap interference. I'm pointing to them in several pics. It's well made, the zippers have good action and seem that they'll last a good # of years, depending what type of weather they're submitted to. The bug screen at the back of the open Wagon is good quality and the zippers move easily. For $70 I think this is is a good deal. I will buy some additional items to customize it for my needs such 2 more tent poles for the rear flap, better 12-inch stakes with rope-ties and a few strong magnets to keep the sides a bit more closed to help keep the bugs out. There's only a few small gaps that need to be closed by magnets. I would still recommend this to everyone for purchase, adding just a few other items for around $45 more dollars. To get to 5-Stars I'd like to see these changes, which I'm going to buy on the side: 1) Change the stakes and ropes from 6 each to 8 each so you can also stake the poles, which I had to being by myself and it being windy 2) Add a 2nd set of poles for the rear flap so that you can allow it to be flat instead of at such a steep angle. This will allow easier rear access to the car and provide better shade and view from my camping chair. 3) A larger storage bag. Ain't no way that thing is going back into such a small bag ever again. Have a bungee strap around it and put it all away in one of my extra plastic totes with lid that I already had. Can't wait to take it out on my next road trip coming up soon. I'll come back and post pics & experience to see how it works in the real world. *** Update *** I bought the additional items mentioned above to make this a 5-star product. The new tent stakes I bought are not only longer but more sturdy, adding the 2nd set of red tent poles give me more options when I camp, and I ended up using the original storage bag for just the tent stakes, rope & hammer, with everything stored in the extra yellow-lid storage container that I previously owned.

For smaller suvs only
First off this isnโt a bad review. I loved how this tent was packed. Everything was bagged and neatly folded and then contained in one easy to store zippered bag. The poles seemed like good quality as did the cords for staking tent secure. The setup instructions were conveniently sewn into the storage bag so that they are always handy. Like most things these days the instructions always seem to lack details on how the item should fit. It also would be helpful to have an extra pair of hands to help. I didnโt have that. I was really hoping that this tent would be large enough to fit my Ford Transit Connect since it was more of a mini van and not an suv which it was designed for. But alas it was just shy by maybe 6-8 inches. So I found myself somewhat frustrated by there being not enough stretch to attach to my vehicle. So I never got the chance to see it set up. I still love the design and idea of it though. To the makers of this tent I would say that much better instructions are needed. Labeling the zones wood help tremendously and speed up the setup process. With all of the pulling and stretching and stretching and pulling nothing ripped or tore. So I would rate the construction quality as superb.

Works as intended
I had never used a car tent like this before so I was a bit skeptical of how well it would work. Setup was a little tricky at first, but once I understood how it needed to go together, it was very easy to set up and functioned as intended. I was putting it on a hatchback car instead of an SUV so it was a little shorter but it still worked fine. On an SUV it would be ideal fit. Once assembled it seems sturdy and provides a lot of cover and shade. Make sure you have permeable ground to be able to put the stakes in, since they're required for assembly. I haven't used it in the rain yet so I can't be for sure how waterproof it is, but the material is plenty thick and the seams and zippers seem like good quality. Packs up very easily.

Wheres the door?? I dont want people watching me sleep!!
I thought this tent was going to be great. I bought it and took it out and was able to attach it to the car easily enough. But then I discovered chad once you put the canopy up. There's no actual door. There's just a screen over the back of the car. Generally when I camp I want a door between me and The Great outdoors. I don't want just screen. This tent does not have a door so that I can leave my hatch open, sleep in my car and not have people looking in at me, I realize there's a canopy but you can still see directly into where I'm sleeping from the outside. Why is there no door on my tent? I don't want this. I'm returning it. It's terrible and it was too hard to set up much too complicated for a quick stop where I just want to sleep in the back of my car. I don't want to put a tent together that's why I didn't buy a tent. I bought a car tent so I can sleep in my car and have everything easy. This was far too complicated. I put the canopy down and set something heavy on it so I had some privacy inside my car. Didn't even get to use it the way it was intended because there's no door.

Perfect for camping beginners
I never leave reviews, but had to come back and praise this thing because it ended up becoming essential for our first winter time camping trip! We knew it would be raining and wanted to try car camping and this changed the game for us. It provided a little awning we could sit under to get relief from the rain and fit our Audi q3 perfectly. One night it rained the entire time we left our chairs and bin under the awning all night and hoped it would withstand and keep them dry. To our shock- IT DID. This extensions pretty thin and has a flat roof so water did pool in the center and we had to tilt the fabric to get the water off in the morning but our chairs and bin stayed dry! No leakage! I think this is perfect for people who camp pretty casually and infrequently.
