Do not purchase without reading the views!
First off, do not purchase this item! It is a faulty item which will cause you an issue. The gas is not regulated properly so once it lights, flames will shoot out of your water heater. Or at least this is what happened to me and after I read the reviews so many other people. This vendor also will not allow any refunds or returns, but good news for you, if you call Amazon directly they will issue you a refund. They did not want me to make a return because it is a dangerous item, they just asked for me to dispose of it. I wish I would have read the reviews first, it would have saved me a lot of time and hassle. I also speculate that all the other gas control valves that look exactly like this but are listed by other vendors are exactly the same way, but that is my speculation. I wish I would have taken a video of the water heater when the flames ignited but I was so irate I went to the local home improvement store and bought one off their shelf. Needless to say, the hair on my arms is still growing back.

Works fine so far
I have one of the infamous Whirlpool 'flame-lock' gas water heaters sold at Lowes in the 2006-10 era that has the 'left-hand thread' thermocouple. Lawsuits and so on were filed over these by owners.. big mess. So, flash forward, after replacing the burner + thermocouple assembly a few times over the years, come to find out that Lowes no longer carries these assemblies. I let my brother work on it this last time (b/c I rent the house to him), and he stripped out the left-hand threaded thermocouple adapter. The company that makes these adapters also stopped producing them. I needed to replace the whole gas-valve now. I found this one which conforms to the specs of the original, other than it has normal right-hand threads for the thermocouple. I installed it and it has been working fine ever since (2 months now). I'm not going to go into how to install this b/c if you don't know how to research this info yourself, then you should not be trying to do this job. It is not technically difficult, but it is dangerous for a lot of reasons not the least of which is that there's natural gas lines involved and they have to be handled correctly to avoid leaks/problems,.. problems like blowing your house up.
