The tips are slightly curved. That said, the handles are so wimpy, you will struggle to cut through anything sturdier than a single thread.

Yes - lightweight felt - to trim delicate areas. I would use shears for your main cuts or this scissors might wear out too fast.

Are these sturdy enough cut the metallic threads used in goldwork?

I haven't done any goldwork but I'm sure they sure are good scissors. They stay sharp for a very long time. I use them more than any of the other kinds of scissors.
