Great for medium weight yarns and great for beginners
I think this spindle has been improved compared with the previous reviews. I see that the top has been shortened, and the stick has been tapered down so itโs thinner. They have also deepened the grooves on the whorl. I appreciate a company that listens to its customers and continuously makes improvements to their products. This has been a great spindle for me as a beginner. The weight is good for DK or light worsted and the wood is polished smooth without losing its warmth or being too slippery. I like that it can be taken apart, because I plan to try a different whorl for a lighter weight yarn. The way the spindle is made, the whorl has no special threading, just a hole, and the top and bottom stick screw into each other. So it would be easy to replace the whorl with something else that has the same size hole, and use the same top and bottom stick.

Looks great, spins long and fast, lightweight
What an upgrade! I made my own drop spindle to see if I liked the craft, but omg this one is so much better. It spins way longer and faster and is light enough that I can make thin thread. The wood is real hardwood, it feels perfectly balanced, and the assembly is so easy. I like that it can come apart; it can store flat and I think it'll be easier to take the thread/yarn off the spindle when it comes times. If I could change anything, I would want the grooves a little deeper, but honestly I can just make the grooves deeper myself. This is a great option for beginners and professionals alike, I highly recommend!

Great starter spindle at a good price.
This is a great starter spindle at a good price. It is well made and you can adjust the whorl so it is high or low, and it spins beautifully. The wood is finished so there are no rough edges.

Bulky, awkward, bad proportions
This was given to me as a gift. Sweet thought. Too bad I hate it. I have several drop spindles. My favorites are from etsy, SnyderSpindles. I read reviews before unboxing this. First, the people claiming "it has a notch, I've never seen that before" well literally ALL mine have notches. Snyder spindles have many many notches. And this one, the notch is too shallow. Other reviews said "might be good for plying" so I started with a ply. Except the notch is too shallow and my maybe DK weight 2 ply yarn falls out, spindle drops to ground, and unravels. Now, let's address the size. It's notably larger than the others, yet had trouble holding what was less than half full from the 2 I plied. Because the shaft is CRAZY thick. And the part above the whirl is crazy long. If the top bit was shorter and the bottom was longer then it would hold more. Lastly, due to the proportions, it spins very little before it hits the floor and you have to ravel the yarn around it. The box is nothing special. And cardboard will just fall apart given much use or time, so it having a somewhat cute ish holding box, whatever it'll fall apart soon enough. It's cardboard. My final thought was I don't care that it comes apart. The more you take it apart, the more likely it'll wear out those bits and need a replacement gasket. Did they include a replacement? No. Do I own calipers to measure the inner and outer diameter to get an appropriate replacement when I need one? Also no. If you like to collect, and are lured in by the unique aspect of stores flat. Cool. It does that. If you are a new spinner and want to buy your first, or second, spindle then get a Snyder. 3 stars because it does spin. It's hefty, so it feels sturdy. The finish is smooth. I just hate it.

Good if you're Curious
Bought it to try drop spindling, so I can't really tell if this one is good or not. I did not have any issues spinning the fibre.
