4000 Peak Watt Super Quiet Dual Fuel Portable Inverter Generator, Remote Electric Start, Gas & Propane Powered, RV Ready, CO Sensor, Parallel Capable

*Detailed Review* We wanted a generator to primarily support our cruiser boat (30A plug) while out on the ‘hook’ overnight aka not connected to shore power. We were MORE than impressed by the power and efficiency this unit has. We purchased the 4000, dual fuel, remote start and all I can say is WOW! USE: The remote start / stop is a game changer for our use. We keep it on our swim platform, 20 or so feet from our cabin interior. It simultaneously powers our boats aircon or heat, stovetop, TV, refrigerator, coffee pot, microwave, and all other boat features (lights, water pumps, etc) simultaneously SEE VIDEO. We can start it and stop it from the comfort of our bed without having to get up when it’s cooled down / heated up inside. In the video you can hear it in the background outside the cabin, but you can tell it is not too loud as we aren’t trying to talk loud over it running. UTILITY: The machine weighs in the 60# range if I remember correctly, which makes it very portable for my husband. For those of us less strong, it has a nice pullout handle feature, which enables it to be pulled or pushed around with ease. So far we have only used the gasoline fuel but wanted both gas + propane for any reason one or the other may be unavailable. I also wanted to mention the auto off CO detection feature we inadvertently found out about- while the unit was mounted and secured to our swim platform, we needed to move the boat slowly 10’ or so. As such, when we turned the boat off after the move, we realized that the unit was off. We surmised the exhaust from the boat, directly under the unit, was enough to engage the generators CO sensor and turn it off. And that was an incredible feature we did not know it possessed. This feature is obviously for if the generator itself produces then is stagnant of CO, a safety shut off feature. EFFICIENCY: While out on the hook, we can run it at normal (non efficiency mode) for 8 hours on and off a day, 3-4 days of the week and maybe only go through 2.5-3gallons of fuel. My most appreciative use was during hurricane Milton over this fall. While we had intended it for boat use, it came in handy when we went down to check on our other home. During the power outage, we had the house refrigerator, the lanai refrigerator, TV, many cell phones etc, all plugged in , for 14 solid hours and maybe burned through 5 gallons of gasoline on the efficient mode. As you can see, we are more than pleased with this Westinghouse unit and would recommend it.

This review is for the iGen4000DFc model with remote start. Bought this unit right before the ice storms; intended for powering things in the house as well as for camping/tailgating. I lucked out and ordered right before the rush, so delivery was very fast and on time as advertised; I read several reviews where packaging can get mangled due to the weight, but this came with pristine packaging and was perfect. Unit was very easy to set up, all accessories were in the box as advertised. TIP: upon first start up, unit will take several attempts before the gas cycles through and all the residual oils in the engine burn off. I had to crank it up at least 6-7 times before it stayed lit and finally "took"; don't panic if it starts up for a few seconds, puffs out white smoke, then conks out for several cycles - keep starting it, it'll eventually stay lit then purr like a kitten. I love all the features and flexibility of this unit, more than checks off all my boxes. Luckily we didn't have an outage, but I tested it with a couple of space heaters (25 amps), a refrigerator (8.5 amps), and probably another 6 amps total of phones/laptops/internet modem and it didn't cough once, so A+ so far; the usage meter on it was also spot on indicating accurate amperage draw. Seemed to sip gas, and all 3 starting methods worked flawlessly (remote, push start, pull cord). NOT AS QUIET AS MANY SAY - it's not loud, but not quiet either; you would piss off many campers if you had this thing running all night. I'm going to add a silencer to it to quiet it down some more. Great unit so far, haven't put it thru the paces yet, but that's a TBD - will update this review if anything material changes as I put some hours on it. Price was great for what you get, and Westinghouse seems to have high reliability ratings, so fingers crossed this was a good purchase. Highly recommend. Update 2/6/26: Meant to mention in the first review - remote start is a nice-to-have, but kinda useless as you still have to be at the unit to turn the main power switch on/off before and after remote start/off. If you don't turn the switch off after shutting it down, you'll drain the on-board battery and it won't start (like a car). I am not sure if the pull cord will start it with a drained battery or not.

This unit is an excellent value for the price. I installed it in a small space in my travel trailer and is light enough for me (78 years old) to lift, the handle and wheels come in great for transporting across camp grounds etc. It's a very nice looking unit, comes fully assembled, it''s compact yet sturdy plastic case appears to be very durable. electric starter and remote rounds things out perfectly.

APRIL 24, 2026-SEE Update. Original unit as received was....Absolutely junk thus far, but customer service is really nice and the agent was thorough and extremely polite. I would reccomend calling rather than submitting a request through their support site as there is evidently a large lag time via the website. Right out of the box, this pile of junk doesn't turn over. Very detailed instructions and trouble shooting checklists are provided and were useful in the 2 days of troubleshooting and trying to start it. The unit is attractive and appears to be well engineered but after viewing a number of YOUTUBE problem shooting videos on this generator, I would say the issue is not uncommon. No resolution yet from manufacturer so jury is out. I will update this review once our case has been handled at the next level and advise as to how customer service ultimately handles this. UPDATE JUNE 13, 2026: WESTINGHOUSE CUSTOMER SERVICE CAME THROUGH!!! A new replacement unit was delivered and works flawlessly right out of the box. Starts on propane or gas and worked 3 hours today on a water well pump. Given the condition of the original unit's shipping container which showed oil staining amd possibly scuff marks on the casing, we are suspicious that the first one may have been reconditioned or something when we received it. Westinghouse Customer service and ultimately the ease of starting and use of the replacement unit, moved our ratings up from a 1 to 4 stars. It is powerful, quiet, well designed, and easy to operate.

Look it's a generator, it generates. The only trick with this one is that you need to charge the battery before using it, and make sure the battery is plugged into the generator. It's not that hard, but it stumped me for a couple hours when first using it. Otherwise, the dual-fuel works brilliantly, the auto start is perfect (remote is nice too), and it doesn't sound like a ww2 fighter plane while it's running. I tend to prefer using propane since it's far cleaner (no need to drain afterward, which means less wasted fuel overall) and doesn't go bad like gasoline does. Especially with the current energy market, it actually ends up being cheaper per watt too (May '26, we'll see how well this sidenote ages). I haven't put any variable loads on it, so far i've only needed to use it to charge an Ecoflow 2kwh battery. So i can't say how well its output is, all i can say is that it seems to tune its RPM exactly right to charge the battery at peak fuel efficiency.

Don't buy this unit - Generator trips at half rated load. Worked well for about 2 hrs and then it trip off with a 15 amp (1500 watts) porter cable pancake compressor load. Gas Cap will not secure properly and spins (without fully engaging) such that is cant get fully tight resulting in gas leakage and safety issue. I put a current meter and read a steady 15.4 amps. Generator would run for about 30 sec before tripping. Not a surge / peak power issue. the generator does not perform. I purchased Westinghouse 5000 watt generator which as a better gas cap that actually tightens and has more power margin. However. The battery housing is is a small recess for the battery and there is absolutely NO tie down on the battery. When I rolled it the first time and set it straight up before putting it in my truck on my drive way the battery fell out of the battery holder. When it arrived from Amazon, the battery was floating freely around which is a design flaw and a safety issue. I called Amazon and they will not take it back since it has gas in it. Could Westinghouse splurged and at least installed a cheap rubber hold down strap ? Do yourself a favor and Buy a honda generator as I have not seen these kind of design flaws and safety issues with the honda OEM built products. My background - Electronics Engineer

The unit was delivered undamaged, and all materials and hardware were included in the box. The instructions were easy to follow. The unit came with oil and funnel making it easy to put the oil in. The unit battery was connected as instructed. The unit was set up using propane which came with all required hardware including wrenches. The unit was initially started using the electric start button. The unit started on the first attempt. The remote start fob was programmed and used to start the unit and left to run for 15 min with no issues. The unit was later used on the RV 30A circuit. Air conditioning was run which used 25% of the generator. The microwave was also checked and running at full power it also used 25%. These are the two items which you would have to have a generator for as they only run on 120 Volts. The electric hot water heater was also checked. It uses 50% of the generator power. This would only need to be used if for some reason the propane system was not functioning but good information to know. The unit was run for two hours on varying load conditions to break in the unit. Still have three hours more for break in to be complete loading must remain under 50% or less during this time. As the data has shown, running the AC and microwave should meet the requirement. The unit's noise was adequate. I appreciate the weight and size. At 62 pounds it can be loaded into the cab of a pickup keeping it safe and out of site during travel. Because it is kept inside the cab, I have only been using propane to fuel the generator. No gasoline smell or fumes in the cab. You do lose about 20% output power with propane, but I don't anticipate running it at peak levels so it should not be a problem. I don't know how long the propane will last, but after the first two hours the tank still felt full. I started with a full tank so when I fill it before any trips I'll have a more accurate number. The unit also comes with a built in strong retractable pull handle to move the generator on the ground, so it does not have to be carried unless conditions demand it. The unit is packed with features and the dual fuel, and three starting options make this unit very powerful and flexible. I'm pleased with the generator so far and hopefully for a long time to come.

I am very pleased with my order. It is only slightly heavier than my Honda 2200 but gives me much more power not to mention dual gas AND remote start. I thought it was very quiet and then I put it in Eco and wow, so quiet. I was quite surprised how good this unit is especially at this price. I plan on buying another so I can run them parallel when I have a large need. It was nice that you also sent me a complimentary generator cover but it would have been nice to get one that fits my inverter and not a large open frame. I'll probably send it back.
