This can be checked in; however most airlines would consider this an oversized bag and will probably charge extra to check it in.

What are the dimensions with the removable pouch removed?

17"x17"x36", it's a huge bag, and made very well. It's so big that you have to pay for over-sized luggage on some airlines.

You have to check the airline requirements for checked baggage. They all have their own individual limits, but I've had to pay for oversized baggage with it on Southwest. It is huge, so I think it would be on the oversized side for most, if not all airlines.
