Excellent quality product, delivers a very close shave!
Despite reading some reviews that describe this razor as too aggressive i thought i would give it a try. I am absolutely delighted with this razor, it has a wonderfully heavy weight to it and is engineered to a very high standard. The adjustability allows for versatility to deal with long beard growth and also as a daily shaver. On the most aggressive setting, proper preparation is required and good technique however I used this setting on my first use to remove a longish beard and it gave a wonderfully close shave. I now use daily on the lowest setting and it delivers an excellent shave when used with proper technique. Highly reccomend.

Serious quality
There is no doubt that this razor is beautifully engineered and will last a lifetime. I have not gone through all the maths yet but I'm sure in the long run it will work out cheaper using this razor along with 100 Derby Extra Stainless Steel Double Edge Safety Razor Blades than using the multi blade razors endlessly hyped on TV. ( If they are that good why do they need that much advertising? ) Using this razor is not about the money though, it is about the quality of the shave it gives. And it gives an excellent shave, much better than "The best a man can get" making every shave a pleasure to look forward to and no longer a chore. It is heavy and does take a bit of getting used to. The first couple of shaves I picked up the odd nick or two bit but now I'm getting a perfect result every time. Also it is great to use a razor that does not clog up. For best results use a luxury shaving soap, and apply it with a badger bristle shaving brush. I'm using either Erasmic shave soap or The Bluebeards Revenge Luxury Shaving Cream (180ml) and I cannot believe how smooth my face is, not just after the shave but several hours later!

Best shave ever....
I have spent years looking for the perfect shave! I've spent money on straight razors, shavettes, Gillette, Wilkinson sword etc. This is by far hands down the best shave I have ever had! Out of the box it was pristine looking! I inserted a Japanese feather blade (the best blades in my opinion) and put it in the first setting and stared to shave. What they don't tell you is that if you leave the razor soaking in hot water the warm metal head of the razor gliding over your skin behind the blade feels absolutely incredible. No gel strip or skin stretch grip can compare to the feeling or warm luxurious metal. It's so easy to use and set up. I use a new feather blade everytime for the sharpest shave possible. Using a 3 pass system I had no cuts or nicks and the smoothest shave ever. I should say I have a very tough beard such that even the barber doesn't dare go against the grain because it rips the skin off my face and makes me bleed! This blade however did no such thing (on setting 2 it did) but was smooth and delightful. I don't write many reviews so you can be assured that this product must have been well worth it for me to write a review on here!

Time consuming but gives a sense of occasion and vintage manliness 😁
If you have an idea that going back to Old fashioned razors will give you a better shave and save you money, I’d think carefully! Are modern, plastic, multi blade razors now becoming a gimmick: 3, 4 and 5 blade marketing? I say mostly yes. I recently moved back to safety razors and here is my advice: If you want a sense of occasion, have a good bit of extra time on your hands to use the pre shave and the lather up with a nice bristle brush and some of the fresh smelling shaving soaps and then have to be careful and diligent with the old style, bulky metal razors (and blades that are very variable in quality!) then yes, buy one for special occasions. …. But if you want that sense of occasion and a lot less hassle and a really decent shave, I’d recommend you buy a no nonsense Gillette Sensor Excel, twin blade razor, a good bristle brush and some of the great Proraso pre shave creams and their shaving soap bowl. This way you get the benefit of the great fresh shaving products, pre prep and then a razor that can shave you quickly, around the contours and in to the nooks and awkward places easily and leaving an excellent shave. The Sensor Excel blades last at least for 10 great shaves. My experience of the safety razor blades are that the much acclaimed, multipack, cheap blades (100 typically), are poor quality and barely shave your face before going blunt. My wife tried some of these cheaper blades and found after half a leg, the blade was scrap! So, in summary, if you decide to go retro, don’t expect it to be fast, better or cost saving; you will find that it is slower, arguably not as effective (I think the lack of pivoting blade is at least on factor) but other key factors are: Don’t buy cheap, volume blades, buy great quality 10 packs like Wilson’s or Gillette, as you will get circa 5 good shaves a blade from a 10 pack, costing £3-4 ( versus 100 inferior others at £6). My last tip is, if you want a closer shave, don’t buy a ‘closed comb’ safety razor, as the finish will never be too close. This Merkur razor has a unique adjuster to let you experiment and work closer (start at 1 and move up in half’s, until you find your sweet spot.) Are you going to nick yourself, yep but it is part of trying to get the shave you want. Don't expect the best shave of your life with this razor and a quality blade…. Unless you are prepared to put in the much needed extra time and effort but equally, don't underestimate the special feel of using the older style shaving tools and some great shaving products.

Beginner DE Razor?
This is my 3rd DE traditional razor I have bought in the last 6 months, although there is nothing traditional about it.It is a well made solid, heavy ,adjustable razor. There is nothing wrong with my other 2 razors other than been a bit too mild in the aggression department, so after research I came across the Merkur Futur. This razor is aggressive, however that does not mean it cannot be used by a beginner. If you are reading this review then you have had the sense to research before purchasing, so you probably will have done your research into wet shaving or are an old hand at it and will be fine with this razor. However that is not to say load it with a Feather blade and set it on 6 and all will be well as you will cut yourself if you don't concentrate. I myself used the Merkur blade it came with (not the best)and used it on setting 1 just to get the feel and now use it on setting 3, which is all I need. The only down side I found to this razor was not the best finish, but acceptable. Also read that some people cut themselves when changing blades with wet hands. You do not change blades or even shave with wet hands and I have had no issues changing blades Go for it and dump that expensive to maintain cartridge razor

Package must be signed for
Good solid build with a smooth adjustment dial. The weight of it means it glides down your face and neck with barely any pressure needed. I'm sure it will last for years. It's now my default razor The major issue I had was that somebody 18+ must be at the delivery address to accept the package - it cannot be delivered to a pick-up point, Amazon locker nor safe place, and all because it comes with ONE sample blade. It would be far more convenient to remove the sample blade as part of the package

Brilliant razor
Just had my first shave with the futur,I already use the Merkur 34c and 38 barber's pole as well as a punch of straight edge razor's and I must rate the futur as one of the best shaves I've ever had. If you've got sensative skin or are new to double edge razors ,seriously, check this out. The futur is adjustable by twisting the handle and is mark 1-6,1 being the mildest cut, 6 which would seriously mess you up if you got carried away!. I set it to 1 as it was my first go and did a three pass, some taylors almond shaving cream and a badger hair brush and my face was baby bum smooth!,no rash,no nicks or cuts, just brilliant. Check out mantic59 on youtube for a better review.

Nice idea, but belongs in the past
Many years of razor development have moved us on from the more primitive and basic Merkur Futur and similar. It is a lot harder to get a blood-free decent shave with this compared to a supermarket bought Gillette or similar. Particularly if you are in a rush.

Rasoio Merkur Futur

Built like a brick!
I felt a bit lazy after shaving with a straight razor for 10+ years, and wanted something simpler. It's a safety razor, and there's no problem shaving with i.e. Feather, just go on have a great shave. It looks great, and it feels great. No problems reaching any areas, youl'll learn. Have a great shave!
