Part 2 of the greatest band biography ever.
Well, I suppose you need to be a fan of the Byrds to read this volume. Volume one, the band biography, covered the original Byrds and is without any doubt unsurpassed in a rock band biography. This second volume covers the deceased members of the band individually, at the time Johnny Rogan wrote the book. Alas, he has himself passed away so there can be no further editions.Johnny Rogan's incredible detail and research into the subjects of the book are astounding. No mere quick twelve month jaunt, his books on the Byrds have almost been a lifetime's work. A labour of love, for he obviously loves the band. Not that this love blinds him in his writing, he really does keep impartiality throughout. Some of the subjects in this volume may be totally unknown to all but a few real fans but they all have interesting stories, some extremely sad as they all die relatively young. All their stories are fascinating though and Rogan's writing brings them all back to life.If you loved the music, bands, the whole feel of those heady times in the 60's and 70's and if you loved the Byrds music in particular this is a must read book. The discographies alone are astonishingly detailed.Johnny Rogan's volumes on the Byrds, and there are several, are the outstanding works. This is no exception. How important is this book to me? My dog managed to chew the cover and acknowledgement pages so I bought another copy. We both rate it that highly. Now we have a copy each.

What a follow up ?
Another superb epic about a fabulous band. The Byrds were apparently the American answer to the Beatles ??? No contest in my opinion. Having been diagnosed with cancer 6 years ago I may have 'overstretched' myself with these 2 purchases, perhaps I can find a hearse with a luggage rack.
