Fantastic lighter but there are some issues
This lighter has been fantastic. It's super convenient and has lighted for me in the windiest of conditions where my trusty zippo could not - even the "windproof" zippo. During that time, it was so windy, I burnt my hand trying to light an incense stick. This torch was able to light. A couple of things to note, though. 1) The contacts will get dirty and will cause it not to light. You'll hear a kind of fizzle sound. Just clean the two contact points with a clean cloth should be sufficient to get enough soot or carbonization off to get it working again. 2) The USB charging port is poorly soldered. There's not much holding it in there. I bought this almost exactly 1 year ago and have been using it continuously. It just failed when I plugged it in (I think I charge it about every other month, so I maybe used the port 6 times?). When I pulled the cable out, I noticed the plug was actually inside the case. When I opened up the case, I noticed that the only thing really holding it there is solder on the leads. It might make sense to put a small dollop of epoxy on the connector to keep it there for insertion force. In any case, I was able to fix it, but you would need some experience with repairing electronics and a soldering iron. Again, this lighter, with the exception of the charging port, never failed to light for me. It's been excellent and I highly recommend it if you are in windy conditions and need to light something often.

Very Useful
This would have been a five-star review if the flexible wand would have stretched or would have been longer in the first place. I bought it with campfires in mind. This lighter is awesome in a lot of ways, including being rechargeable, which I can do in our RV - where a lighter that runs out of fluid or propane would just leave us out of luck. Rechargeable Arc Lighter - Flameless Lighter - USB Plasma Lighter - Adjustable Extra Long Lighter For Hard To Reach Candles, BBQ Grills, Stoves, Fireplace, Campfires by Boulder ToolsRechargeable Arc Lighter - Flameless Lighter - USB Plasma Lighter - Adjustable Extra Long Lighter For Hard To Reach Candles, BBQ Grills, Stoves, Fireplace, Campfires by Boulder Tools I like the safety cover over the switch that helps prevent unintentional arcs. It's a little too short to stick under a fully-prepared campfire, but it will do. I'll just have to start with a smaller kindling fire and then pile on the wood. All in all, I like it a lot!

as advertised but short reach
So the lighter works great for places it can reach, however I purchased it for the BBQ and it does not reach the standard ignition position. The bendable part which I will call the 'neck' is only about 2 inches long (5cm). The good: it lights reliably when I take off the bbq grate and ignite it that way. Works as described, out of the box. Charging cable is included but no instructions in mine. The only required instruction is how to turn it on. push the red button forward just takes off the 'safety' feature, then press the exposed button underneath to light. All in all, if you are not purchasing this product to light a propane bbq then it is a recommended purchase.

Unsafe for gas fireplaces
I was very disappointed in this product. Unsafe for lighting gas fireplaces. Because of no flame it takes a longer time to light, thus the gas logs threw out huge flames and made a big โpoofโ sound when it finally ignited. Very unsafe! It was advertised as being extra long, however it is not. It did work fine on lighting candles. I returned!

Not Holding Charge After 1 Year of Use?
We bought this arc lighter a year ago, liked it, and bought a 2nd light for a friend. But now, after 1 year, it is NOT holding charges? I would like the Seller, Boulder Tools, comment on how long we should expect this lighter to last? The price also went up from $16.99 to $26.99, roughly 60% increase! Looking for an alternate lighter at this moment!

Time, Life, and Money Saver!!!
The primary heat source is my wood burning stove. Propane can be costly when it's the primary fuel used in our cold mountain air. This lighter came in the night before a snow storm was to hit, temps were to drop below 20. This amazing tool has saved me both time and money. No more cheap fireplace lighters that blow out before the paper tinder catches, and they go dry in less than a week. In less than 5 minutes this morning I had a fire going. 17 degrees outside but my house is warm and cozy. The propane heater hasn't kicked on since before dawn and it's now lunch time. I even used it for candles this morning and I'm sure come summer it will be used for the charcoal grill and smoker.

This thing is awesome. It feels like you have an electric bug ...
This thing is awesome. It feels like you have an electric bug zapper in your hand. When it's being used it emits a high pitched buzz sound which surprised the crap out of me. It isn't a bad noise, just not something I expected. What I especially like about this lighter is that my wife has these candles all around the house that are almost burnt out and she refuses to throw them away. So they have very deep wicks on them that are hard to reach with a normal lighter. That's no longer an issue with this because it lights it right away with ease. And I like that it's rechargeable, so we don't have to worry about running out of fluids and stuff. Feels almost sci-fi to me!
