So much to love with one drawback
I turn large wood bowls on a lathe as a hobby. I use this to draw out my circles on quarter sawn blankets that I've cut with my chainsaw. This works almost perfect. I love that I can drill a pivot point and anchor this in place. I love that I can use it to draw out bowls of any size I need the only problem I'm running into is the size of the hole that the pencil lead sticks through. It's a tiny hole designed for the tip of a very sharp standard number 2 style pencil. For drawing on paper or smooth wood it works great. I'm trying to draw on rough chainsawed raw wood. A normal pencil either breaks it's sharp tip off instantly or is dull after only a few inches. I am thinking about drilling out each of the holes a touch bigger so a slightly more blunt carpenters pencil will stick in there better so it will write longer before needing sharpening. Overall I think I'll love it once I figure out a resolution for my fairly specific issue. Update: I drilled the pencil holes out to 7/64th. I can now get a more blunt tip of a pencil in it which writes longer on rough wood. It's not perfect and I might have to go a touch larger later.

Large diameter compass for wood working
Very high quality aluminum construction. It has laser-engraved markings, & both metric/inch markings. You can use it to make large circles or scribe large arcs up to 21" radius or 42" diameter with the included self storing pen or just use a standard pencil. I use it for laying out numbers on large diameter clock faces.

you have to have a really strong marking device with a fine tip to use this item.
This is a good item, have not been able to use it yet. I had thought that I could use it to make 1" circles, but the smallest circles that can be made are 2" ones. I tried to use a mechanical pencil for a marker, but it is very difficult to hold the pencil and turn the compass at the same time, you have to use whatever you are marking with to turn the compass, or figure out how to have three hands. "one to hold the pointer down into the wood, one to hold onto the marker and one to turn the compass." I haven't mastered that yet.
