Children's fantasy action adventure. Meggie (Eliza Bennett) travels all over the world with her father Mo 'Silvertongue' Folchart (Brendan Fraser), a skilled bookbinder. Mo has a very special talent: he is able to bring story characters to life as he reads. When he brings three characters to life from the medieval tale 'Inkheart', fire-eater Dustfinger (Paul Bettany) and the villainous duo Capricorn (Andy Serkis) and Basta (Jamie Foreman), he unleashes a terrible evil that will come back to cause all kinds of trouble for his family for years to come. Helen Mirren and Jim Broadbent co-star.

Interesting film. unusual concept
The DVD arrived promptly after I had ordered it. Intrigued, I watched it that evening. The premise is unusual and is well portrade. The only criticism is that pacing is a bit uneven but well worth a watch!

Inkheart DVD
This is a story about a man who can make characters come alive when reading a story aloud. There is a consequence to this, however, as he finds out when reading a story to his daughter. When the evil character, Capricorn, is read out of a book, this is an exchange for his wife, who is read into the book. The story is about how, many years later, he and his daughter rescue his wife and manage to extinguish the evil characters. I really enjoyed the film although the book had the edge as I felt the impact of some of the characters' actions were lost in the acting. But definitely worth watching.

Holds its own in a dignified way
Exciting and thought provoking. The acting drew me into the plot and although it may have to compete with the multi dollar Hobbit films, holds its own in a dignified way. I have also read the book and the following two in the trilogy and found it to be very respectful to the author Cornelia Funke. So good I viewed it thrice :) Most memorable performances for me were by Brendan Fraser (Mo) and Andy Serkis (Capricorn) although all the cast were perfect for their parts.

Very clever!
This is a really amazing film and so very clever the way it weaves several well known stories and the characters from those stories into the story itself. It's not often that I will quite willingly watch what I consider to be a 'childrens' film but my 11 year old daughter and I both love this film and will watch it again and again - and I keep buying additional copies for other people as presents - that's how much I like it!
