I am a big Connelly fan. I read the earlier Bosch & Haller books in paper (sometimes hardback) and have recently replaced all to a digital version and have read the entire series again. Some are better than others much the same as a Grisham but Connelly is an amazing story teller. There is no doubt about that. Seems familiar, easy to read and hard to put down. This book is no exception and even better with both Bosch and Haller working together rather than just dipping into each others lives. My other half laughs at me as he has to remind me that Bosch is not a real person. I beg to differ as he has come alive through the series of books and over the years we have all got to know and love him. I loved the theme of the book with helping the underdog and the book grabs your attention from the first chapter. I wanted to keep reading to see how the story unfolded and was not disappointed with the end result. Through the writing you can tell that Harry and Mickey are very different in personalities and how they see the world especially around police and legal matters. Bosch has not forgotten who he is at the core retired or not a true police detective at heart, he stays loyal to his principles. Nice to see Ballard making a small appearance. I have not watched the TV series of Bosch but have enjoyed the The Lincoln Lawyer on Netflix, probably because its quite glossy. I wasn't sure at first. I wonder what the future holds for Mickey. Can't wait to find out.

My first Bosch / Lincoln Lawyer book after watching (and rewatching) the two TV series and I was not disappointed. The characters were now familiar to me and the way they are portraid on screen is the same as in the book. The story is so well together and is not a slog or boring to read. I was shocked how quickly I got halfway through as the flow is so fast I just kept turning the page. I absolutely recommend this book. I have now ordered a load of other books by the author to continue my experience and the great stories of Bosch and Co.

Once again another fantastic read.......Michael Connolly puts many other authors in the shade...Brilliant from start to finish.

A supurb book,with a terrific plot .

It had to happen eventually – Bosch and Haller finally get together to work on a case. Hooray! Not just the occasional touching of lives that we have had in the past, but a proper – and very fruitful – hand-in-glove partnership. Between Lincoln Lawyer books (and they are few and too sparse) I have read many courtroom dramas. None come close to the mix of authenticity and engagement that Michael Connelly manages to produce. This author manages to keep you informed of the unfolding strategy, whilst holding back on a few key developments so that there is for the reader anticipation and drama in the courtroom. Few authors can pull this off – it is an art, and Connelly is Rembrandt. All of the regular Lincoln Lawyer characters make an appearance in this satisfying story of ultimate justice – Cisco, Laura, Maggie – but with the wisdom and experience of Bosch thrown in the mix the storyline takes on an extra dimension, and Connelly interwove the expertise of each half-brother brilliantly. The behaviour of Mickey Haller continues to include slightly dodgy tactics and an element of rebellion, whilst the character of Harry Bosch continues to be restrained and winsomely insecure. I am looking forward to the day when they are a bit more demonstrative in their appreciation of each other! It will be long time (if ever) before Mickey Haller emerges in a new drama, so perhaps it’s time to start again at the beginning and enjoy his developing celebrity.

I have lost count of how many of Michael Connelly’s books I have now read, but I keep coming back for more. This one features both Hieronymus ‘Harry’ Bosch (Connelly’s principal protagonist for the last thirty years or more) and Mickey Haller (Bosch’s half-brother), who has come to be known as ‘The Lincoln Lawyer’ from his preference to work in the back of his Town Car, rather than from a conventional office. The relationship between Bosch and Haller is a fragile one. Sharing a father, they had not met during childhood (Bosch is probably at least a decade older than Haller), and have markedly different backgrounds. Bosch spent forty-odd years as a detective with LAPD while Haller has forged his career as a defence attorney, frequently pillorying the police for procedural infringements and misfounded, or even corrupt, investigations. Bosch is adamant that his name should not be associated in any of Haller’s cases that involve attacking the police. This novel follows the travails of a woman convicted some years ago of the manslaughter of her ex-husband, a Deputy Sheriff. At her trial, rather than pleading not guilty, she had simply not contended the charge, in recognition of which she had received a lighter sentence. Now, however, she is adamant that she is innocent, and wants Haller to represent her. Initially reluctant to become involved in the case of someone convicted of shooting a law enforcement officer, Bosch does become involved, acting as one of Haller’s investigators. As always, Connelly sucks the reader in almost effortlessly. Seemingly just a few minutes after picking the book up I found myself fifty pages in, and entirely engrossed. There is nothing poetic or artificially stylish about Connelly’s writing. Having started out as a crime report. He knows how to set out a story with clarity and conciseness, and few words are wasted. He also knows his characters inside out, having been writing about them for decades. Consequently, their actions and dialogue seem utterly plausible. He also captures the spirit of the city admirably – I feel that I know these neighbourhoods as well as my own. Connelly has been careful to age Bosch in real time, so I do wonder how much longer he can continue. Connelly has, however, also developed a wide network of regular characters, the most prominent of whom is Renee Ballard. Much younger than Bosch, she has developed many of his traits: principally obduracy, cussedness and a lack of concern for what her colleagues think of her. While she appears only fleetingly in this book, I am sure that she is ready to pick up Bosch’s mantle, following his mantra that, ‘Everybody counts, or nobody counts’.

A good read interesting plot line.

Dieses Mal aber nicht nur mit ihm, denn als zweiter Protagonist ist sein Halbbruder Harry Bosch, vormals Detective beim LAPD, dabei. Man hat noch keine fünfzig Seiten gelesen, da hat Harry Bosch bereits den ersten Fall gelöst. Harry arbeitet jetzt offiziell als Ermittler für Haller, weil er wegen dieser Anstellung krankenversichert ist. Die Krankenversicherung braucht er, um seinen Krebs zu besiegen. Haller unterstützt ihn hierbei mit allen Mitteln. Allerdings hatte Harry Bosch – das kann man in allen Roman mit ihm nachlesen – ein Problem damit, für Strafverteidiger zu arbeiten. Als Cop hat er sein Leben lang Verbrecher in den Knast gebracht. Er hasst Verteidiger, die versuchen, mit windigen Tricks die Verbrecher vor dem Knast zu bewahren. Trotzdem hat er seine Aufgaben bei seinem Halbbruder gefunden. Er durchleuchtet alte Fälle von Verurteilten, die behaupten, unschuldig im Gefängnis zu sitzen. Haller hatte vor kurzem einen Gefangenen mit Bosch Hilfe herausgeholt. Nun wird er mit Briefen und Bitten überschüttet, auch deren Absender zu helfen. Harry Bosch hat den Auftrag, diese Fälle unter die Lupe zu nehmen, sie zu filtern und dem Lincoln-Lawyer einen Vorschlag zu machen, bei welchem Fall es sich lohnt, ihn in Angriff zu nehmen. Einen zu unrecht Verurteilten aus dem Gefängnis zu holen, finanziert Haller selbst, macht dies also probono. Geld verdient er erst, wenn er erfolgreich war und der Staat wegen der unrechtmäßigen Verurteilung auf Schadensersatz verklagt werden kann. Harry Bosch ist mit einem Fall fündig geworden, der von Beginn an sehr heikel ist, aber starke Hinweise gibt, dass die Gefangene tatsächlich unschuldig im Knast sitzt. Sie hatte vor fünf Jahren ein Geständnis abgelegt, ihren Ex-Mann, einen Cop, erschossen zu haben. Dafür wurde ihr eine geringere Strafe zugesagt. Ihr damaliger Anwalt hatte sie zu diesem Deal überredet. Haller und Bosch nehmen sich der Sache an und der Roman wird ein rasantes hin und her von Argumenten und Gegenargumenten zwischen Staatsanwaltschaft und Strafverteidigung. Michael Connellys Lincoln-Lawyer-Reihe ist berühmt für seine packenden Gerichtsprozesse, die ohne Schnörkel auskommen. Auch in diesem Buch ist das nicht anders. Die Kapitel sind kurz und konzentrieren sich meist auf eine einzige Szene. Trotzdem sind sie genauso mitreißend aufgebaut. Zum Beispiel wird am Ende eines Kapitels angedeutet, dass im nächsten Kapitel ein Telefonat stattfindet. Obwohl man bereits weiß, wie das Gespräch für den Protagonisten enden soll, damit er seine Verteidigung aufrechterhalten kann, bleibt man als Leser unsicher, ob Haller das bekommt, was er will. Wenn diese Art von Spannungskette fortgesetzt wird, wird das Buch »Resurrection Walk« zu einem wahren Pageturner. Michael Connelly nutzt auch in »Resurrection Walk« konsequent sein bereits existierendes Figurenensemble. Die Mitarbeiter von Haller werden dem Leser vorgestellt, darunter eine seiner beiden Ex-Frauen, von denen eine mit seinem jetzigen Fahrer und Ermittler verheiratet ist. Und auch die andere Ex-Frau, eine Staatsanwältin, bekommt wieder einen Auftritt in diesem Roman. Dieses Universum ist der Grund, weshalb ich persönlich die Bücher dieses Autors so gerne lese. Man taucht in eine andere Welt ein, die nichts mit unserem Alltag zu tun hat. In dieser Welt lernt man immer wieder faszinierende Figuren kennen, die mit spannenden und aufregenden Biografien aufwarten. Hier mal eine kleine Episode aus »Resurrection Walk« zwischen den beiden Brüdern. Wegen seiner Anstellung fährt Bosch den Anwalt. Der ist eigentlich bekannt dafür, dass er in seinem Auto, dem Lincoln mit Extra-Büroausstattung, arbeitet. Als Haller wieder hinten einsteigen will, haut Bosch ihm die Tür vor der Nase zu. Haller möge bitte vorne auf den Beifahrersitz Platz nehmen. Haller schaut Bosch verwundert an. Da kann er nicht arbeiten. „Sonst fühle ich mich wie dein Chauffeur. Bin ich aber nicht, ich bin dein Ermittler“, sagt er. Im Roman gibt es noch andere Geschichten und Ereignisse, besonders am Anfang, die zwar wichtig sind, aber immer wieder eigene Konflikte haben. Keine einzige Nebenhandlung wird sofort gelöst. Stattdessen werden diese Geschichten nach und nach enthüllt und können am Ende auch die Hauptgeschichte beeinflussen. Unfaire Urteile und Prozesse können verheerende Auswirkungen haben. Falsche Beweise und eine ungleiche Verteidigung führen oft zu ungerechten Verurteilungen. Es ist bedauerlich, dass viele Häftlinge ohne ausreichende Lobby und finanzielle Mittel kämpfen müssen. Um diesen Missstand zu bekämpfen, setzt sich der Lincoln-Lawyer gerne für solche falsch Beschuldigten oder Verteilten ein. Dieser Thriller schildert die Abläufe unheimlich authentisch und brillant. I always enjoy Michael Connelly’s books, and this one doesn’t disappoint. It’s fast-paced with plenty of action. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it, and I recommend it.

Mr. Connely does exactly what a writer of police procedurals should do. He wastes no sentences and from the first to the last is connected perfectly. wew.

Great book by mr. Connelly with Bosch and Haller at their prime

I’ve always been in awe of how entertaining and informative Mickey Haller’s novels are, probably because they are written in first person, unlike the Bosch/ Ballard series, which are written on a third person account. Literary semantics aside, the book revolves around Mickey trying to vacate a wrongfully incarcerated victim, and teams up with Bosch to build the case. It was an amazing read! Totally recommend! Like always.
