Western Digital Purple 6TB Surveillance Hard Drive SATA

Good quality durable and low noise drive.

I had bought this 4TB hard disk in Jun 2024. But installed it in my HIKVISION 16 channel DVR in Aug 2025. 10 cameras are connected to the DVR and all were on continuous recording mode. The hard disk worked fine for 8 days. But it stopped working all of a sudden the 9th day, saying Hard Disk exception. Formatted the hard disk several times, but looks like the HDD has failed and not recoverable. I'm feeling cheated. Such an expensive HDD worked only for 8 days.

A hard disk is a valuable and fragile item, but it was packed in a simple plastic cover without proper protection. The drive started making squeaky noises and completely stopped working within two days.

I tried 2 HDD from WD ( second was replacement piece). Not working with DS 7616nxi-k2..500 gb of other HDD works. I don't know how 2 successive WD HDD could fail.

Came as defective, the HDD can't be started. It is either defect from factory, but likely mishandling by Amazon. The packing came ok-ish but with a lot of deformations.

I ordered this WD purple color 4TB due to its endurance of long recording of data and use it as a backup. It packed well and it works so far so good.
