Makes great porridge!
I grew up eating oatmeal at least once a day, made by my Northern Irish grandfather. He used Quaker rolled oats because that is all he could find in the stores. In years later I 'graduated' to Irish steel cut oats, then Bob's Red Mill oats. Red Mill is a very good oatmeal, but Hamlyn's is the best. It has a nice oat flavor and a smooth, creamy texture. It cooks in less than five minutes after bringing it to the boil. My formula is one part oats, three parts water and scant salt, so you can make as much, or as little, as you want. I find a 1/3 US cup of oats to be about right. Great oatmeal, easy and quick to prepare.

This is perfect oatmeal
It is not pin oats, it is not rolled oats....i think it is oatmeal ground the way it used to be. 20 minutes to wonderful texture, great flavor, and then it is just a matter of time until I need another good hot breakfast! I eat mine with a little salted butter and some honey.

Perfect.
We visited Scotland two summers ago and fell in love with just about everything, including the oatmeal we ate every morning. I know it sounds weird, but there just isn't another oatmeal product quite like this one, even if other brands claim to be of Scottish style. I have been happy to find that I can consistently order Hamlyn's Scottish Oatmeal (the exact same brand and bag we used in Scotland) from this seller, as it is somehow always in stock and ships quickly. The cost is a bit high, but perhaps still reasonable, considering that it does not seem to be otherwise available on American grocery shelves. This style of oatmeal takes a little more care in preparation, in order to prevent lumps, but if done correctly, should be a mostly smooth mixture with perhaps a bit of mealiness in the mouth feel. Add a touch of brown sugar and cream for a delicious (and filling) breakfast. Update 05/14/2021: I don't know how this seller is still getting this product. It was briefly unavailable, but then quickly back in stock, and I was able to replenish our supply even during the pandemic. It's an indulgence, for sure, but I'm thankful to still be able to get it.

Authentic and Delicious
I ordered Hamlyn's Scottish Oatmeal for the first time this week after having been advised that my cholesterol levels were too high. It is very easy to prepare: approximately five minutes of constant stirring while simmering and it is ready to eat. I received an added "bonus" as my first pot of oatmeal neared completion, too. It suddenly occurred to me that it looked -and tasted- *exactly* like the oatmeal my great-grandmother used to make for her younger grandchildren and great-grandchildren! Thank you, Hamlyn's for evoking a lovely memory. This oatmeal is authentic, delicious and will now be a staple in my kitchen pantry.

So creamy and cooks real fast
I easily would have given this product if it weren't for the poor packaging. Other customers had the same thing to say. The bag it came in was torn at the bottom and this was the case with both of the bags I ordered. How is this so? But the oatmeal is terrific. At the same time I bought several bags of the Bob's Red Mill steel cut oats. Probably the best oatmeal I have ever eaten with not much of a close second anywhere. Those oats are big and chewy and an amazing flavor. But the problem is that they need to cook for 20 minutes. When I get hungry I need to eat something Right Now. They are super easy to cook. Add the oats, add the water, bring to a boil, cover and simmer for 20 minutes. Then you will have a revelation. Seriously. But, the nice thing about these oats is that they cook in 3-4 minutes. Much better. They are still steel cut oats but are cut into much finer pieces. There is even some powder in the mix. They do need a little extra attention- add the water, add the oats and bring to a boil and stir vigorously for a few minutes. Not that much work. Then I covered the pot, turned off the heat, left the pan on the burner and came back a few minutes later. Wow. Nice and creamy, still a little chewy, easier to eat than the Bob's oatmeal. And plenty of very delicious flavor, just not a intense as Bob's. I will probably buy both again, but I may end up eating these more often. Just a side not here: On some level these do not even taste like oats. My whole life I have eaten Quaker style rolled oats and I associate that taste with oatmeal. These almost taste like a different grain, the taste is so much different. Definitely a superior product

Best oatmeal ever
This traditional Scottish oatmeal, from Scotland is something I just can't find in local stores. The texture and taste are so much better than rolled or steel cut oats, and have helped me eat a healthier breakfast every morning! I enjoy this oatmeal so much that I have it on Subscribe and Save so I won't run out.

Unreal
So good! I wish I could afford to eat this wonderful porridge everyday. Not your ordinary oatmeal. No comparison to Quaker (glyphosate) oats. You need more water to cook but delicious!
