I have pretty bad cat allergies. My wife has a cat (predates our marriage by about 8 years), which means I have a cat. Antihistamines aren't really a long-term solution. My first step in addressing this was to buy a robot vacuum that runs every workday. That did the trick for about a year in a new apartment, but things have gotten worse again recently. Hard to avoid - pet dander has a way of sneaking into nooks and crannies the robot just can't go, and swirls up when you look at it the wrong way. I wheezed at night, so loud that I was keeping myself up. I was stuffy. My eyes watered and itched. It wasn't the best of times.So I decided for the holidays this year, it was time for an experiment with a real air purifier. After quite a bit of research, I settled on the Alen BreatheSmart air purifier, opting for the air filter with Silver, because why the hell not.It's been about a week now since I got the BreatheSmart, and I've run it continuously. I usually leave it on the Auto setting during the day, and put it in the lowest mode at night (it's quite loud on the Turbo setting, but air just gently streams out on the low setting - you can hear it, but it's soothing and doesn't sound like a motor. It sounds like air flowing).I can honestly say that I'm breathing better. I haven't been wheezy. My eyes haven't watered and itched. I'm sleeping *so* much better.I look forward to seeing how this keeps up over time - I'll update the review if necessary. So far, I'm convinced this is a great filter that does the job really well, and a good night of sleep is worth the money in my book.A few notes:1) Left on Auto, it does seem to go into Turbo quite often. I don't know that my apartment really is *that* dusty. I'll give it another week of doing that.2) that said, the Auto sensing does seem to work. If it's indicating clean air and I shake out the bed, 30 seconds later it'll kick into high gear. This makes sense.3) One caveat for potential buyers: I bought the unit with the silver filter, but the shipment arrived with just the unit, no filter in sight. A quick note to the very helpful customer service cleared this up very quickly and without fuss, and a new filter arrived shortly thereafter. When buying this purifier, you may wish just buy a filter separately at the same time. You'll need it eventually, and it'll save you the hassle of having an air purifier you can't use because there's no filter.***Update about 6 months later***This thing was a life changer. I have not had to pop a single allergy pill since I started running this air filter. I sometimes forget I have cat allergies (and then rub my face on his belly and remember, but such is life). 10/10.

So far this has been so quiet, we had to check if it was still running. It is larger than we expected. We got the rosewood panel which is just okay-looking.

On the highest fan speed it is a little intrusive, have to turn up the tv volume to hear softer speach. When on the highest speed that is what I would expect as it is really moving the air.

This air purifier cleared the air quickly. Expensive but worth the price.

I reviewed a lot of purifiers. I chose this because it was a lifetime warranty, and because it had the best review and i had a lot of cubic feet to cover, my ceiling is very high.

I have had the item for 3 months and I absolutely love it! Was well worth the money.

air as fresh as a mountain top comes out of it. use it in the bedroom about 12 hours per day. very satisfied with it. recommend it.

The media could not be loaded.  I have purchased Alen Breathsmarter on May 17th, 2019, it has been working great until yesterday the auto button keeps turning on and off while beeping annoyingly nonstop. I have cleaned the sensor with no avail. I’ll keep it a one-star review until I hear from their customer support to see how they are going to fix the issue.
