Is the insect mesh metal or plastic? I need to know if mice can get through .

It is lightly painted in grey but appears to be an all metal construction - including the mesh.

Just wondering if the mesh will reduce airflow of my bathroom extractor fan?

Yes and No. The mesh will inevitably restrict air flow, the question is will it make any material difference? That depends on your fan, but I would have thought it highly unlikely that the fan will moving air to such a level that the vent cover will not be able to cope.

Is the grille flush to the wall once installed or is it sticking out? If so, by how many mm? Thanks, M
