Great Pistol Scope! Even better Carbine Scope!
This scope was clearly designed for a carbine requiring EER (extended eye relief), not a pistol. But in saying that, it is outstanding on my pistol!Pro -Outstandingly clear opticsGreat having BDC on a handgun!!!!You can zero the turrets like a high end mil dot scopes and lock the zero so you can make field adjustments without loosing your zero!Great eye relief for long and short arms!Light weightExtremely durable (Alaska Tough!)Con -Too powerful in high settings for a handgun scope without support for my shaky hands.Silver is lighter than expected. But it looks really Good on gun my stainless gun.-Why 5 stars? Because it is a great scope at 1/2 the cost for great optics and durability. To get anything close to this scope in durability and optics you will need to dish out 2x the green backs. I have it on my Ruger Super Redhawk 44 mag, and the BDC marries up with the drop on the bullet in low settings like it was made for it. Which makes it an awesome hunting combination. Haven't tried high settings, because my hands are not steady enough to be able to see clearly through it... To top it off I can use the BDC to judge range similar to using mild dot. Really a nicety in low light hunting where distances can be confusing due to lighting.Another great feature is the turrets. Once you remove the turret covers the turrets are the same turrets as on high end mil dot turrets. You can zero the scope to the gun, and with a screwdriver by removing the set screws on the turrets, lifting off the turrets and then putting the zero on your reference mark and re-installing the screws. Once zeroed it gives you room to play without loosing your zero reference. (Wish my Nikon M223 scope's turrets would do that)This scope is very light. I can stay on target without killing my arms. From shooting her, she really takes the impact of my 44 and climbing around in the Alaska bush has yet to impact zero! I am confident could toss it on my 454 with outstanding results. This scope in my opinion was designed for a carbine. Such as a Ruger Scout or other guns where you mount the scope and need the extended eye relief... The reason I say that is because of the magnification. Once you dial the objective up it is really hard to see through if you are unsupported. In my opinion too much for holding a pistol unsupported. Even when you support the pistol the magnification when dialed up is just too powerful. I have shaky hands, so the magnification needs to stay low on this scope. But for someone who has real steady hands they may not have an issue. Putting it on a stable platform such as a carbine would be the choice for this scope. I will most likely order another and toss it on my daughter's Rossi Rio Grande 357 lever action. One thing you need to keep in mind, that most people do not realize about tossing a scope on a pistol. You need to really practice with the scope shooting free handed until you are able have the object clearly until it becomes muscle memory. I have seen too many handgun scopes get a bad review from inexperienced shooters. Just as with a carbine, it takes some getting use to looking through a scope several feet away from your eyes (my 2 cents). Once you get use to it, you won't will automatically adjust and never notice it...

Great scout rifle scope.
I used to buy cheap scopes, then complain about optics, etc. After mounting a 4x-16x M-223 on my varmint rifle, I became spoiled. When it came time to find a scope for a scout rifle, I looked at this scope, a Bushnell, a Leupold and a Burris scope. The Leupold didn't have quite enough eye relief for a proper scout rifle (I'm tall and tend to have a longer pull on my rifles), the Burris seemed great, but was considerably more expensive. GIven my positive experience with Nikon and their BDC scopes, I purchased this model and couldn't be happier. While 2.8X is a bit too much for a scout rifle, I'm still able to get on target easily. I'd love to see this scope with 1X, 1.5X or 2X as the low end of the zoom. The scope is very high quality. There's more than enough eye relief and there's an adjustment to tweak it to your exact needs. It zooms easily and keeps its zero very well. Since it's made to withstand the recoil of magnum pistols, .308 Win in a scout rifle isn't a challenge at all.The BDC reticle is very helpful at longer ranges and when coupled with Nikon's Spot-On smart phone app, you'll be hitting your target at a wide variety of ranges. I've been using it for with my 4X - 16X M-223 as well and it works flawlessly. The FOV at 100 yards is very good and I'm able to quickly engage targets at closer ranges very easily. I prefer to keep the scope at lower magnification levels, but having the option of 8X is nice. Once I get some more handloads assembled, I'm looking forward to seeing how well my rifle performs.Couple this scope with some QD rings from Warne and you'll have a winning solution. If you have a Ruger GSR, get the medium height Warne QD rings. I first tried Warne Low rings and they don't leave much clearance between the eyepiece and the top of the rail. I would have had to trim the bottom of the lens cover to fit, so I switched to the medium Warne QD rings.

It's not a bad scope, in fact it's quite good
I'm rating this as a scout scope, not a handgun scope, so keep that in mind.I took off a Leupold scout scope (fixed 2.5X) to put this on, and after shooting it, I took it off and returned it. It's not a bad scope, in fact it's quite good. The optics are bright and clear, but there are issues. First, at the distance I had it mounted on my Ruger GSR, the eye relief needed to be adjusted whenever I went from a low magnification (2.5 - 4) to 7 or 8. And speaking of 8, 8 is basically worthless. 6X with the right eye relief looks exactly the same as the 8. Also, the reticle is fat and looks brown and shiny in the sun.The eye relief is not very forgiving...meaning that unlike the Leupold, small movements disrupt the sight picture. I can't imagine using this on a handgun. The BDC is pretty cool and works great, just keep in mind the offsets change at various power levels. If I'd never owned the Leupold, I probably would have kept this scope. If you can live with changing eye relief frequently, or if you don't notice when something isn't perfect and don't need to make too many adjustments, then this scope offers a lot of capability. But at almost the same price, I'd much rather have the Leupold fixed power scout scope. .
