I got this to put on a recently filled area with clay and sand. It's been about 2 weeks and the seeds have terminated as a are growing! To be fair I didn't water it 3x a day line it says to. I was only able to 2x so it delayed the growth. But it looks like it'll be for to go in anther 2 weeks. Pretty cool stuff. I wish they made zoysia seed ones though. But I get it that's a difficult seed to grow and would prob have bad ratings in our instant gratification world. Am in all I'll buy more for the other bare spots

I purchased five rolls of the GrowTrax Grass Seed Mat and carefully followed all the preparation and installation instructions. Unfortunately, what grew was not grass at all — it looks like a patch of weeds or random plants instead. I was really hopeful about this product because it sounded convenient and easy to use, but the results were completely different from what was advertised. I prepared the soil properly and watered as instructed, yet there’s no sign of real grass after two weeks. Very disappointed with this purchase and would not recommend it based on my experience.

So far, it’s been growing. It took about 10 days to see even sprouting, but we are on week three now and it’s fairly even. I can’t speak for how it will hold up. It also seems like 5 weeks to a “full lawn” is very ambitious. But it has been growing steadily. We do water it more than 3 times a day (zone 9b), and that seems to help tremendously versus the other times we’ve tried to grow from seed. But way easier to see where to water, due to the colored mat. We placed it over a decorative mulch/tree we had removed area just past our lawn. Used landscape staples as I was laying it down, and kept some there to deter kids and dogs from running through it. Ordered a second roll last week based on the positive progress. We shall see.

I've purchased this before and it works. Takes a couple weeks to actually start growing but once it does, it looks good. On the last batch I used I noticed the edges are really defined when the grass fully fills in, so I purchased another smaller roll to make a memorial letter for my furbaby Mokie who recently passed away. I am hoping that it retains the shape as well; this will look nice once the other grass fills in around the area and it all takes shape.

It has not been down long enough to know if the grass will actually grow, but in laying it down I found that it tears very easily. I just put it down 3 days ago and it has not had a chance to grow yet. Time will tell.

I covered my whole yard in this stuff based upon a successful trial with a smaller area. The main thing to know is that if you are in a windy area, you are going to be babysitting and repositioning this stuff daily until it sprouts. Any serious wind and it becomes a kite and blows all over. If you are doing what you are supposed to be doing and keeping it damp, you then have to be extremely careful to get it back in position without destroying it, as it basically loses all structural integrity when it is wet, and walking on it will also destroy or put holes in it if the underlying soil is soft, so it is really a challenge to keep it in position. Overall, to do it again, and even now as I stare at my rolls which overnight were blown all over the yard - about 2000 sqft or over 700 dollars of material - I would just cover it all in a half inch of topsoil. This will keep birds from eating it, make it germinate and grow more quickly, and retain water a bit better so it would not require multiple waterings per day to stay damp. If you cover it with a bit of dirt, and keep it moist, you will have excellent results. Otherwise, just buy some sod and be done with it. I mean, it is really a sort of disaster when you wake up at 5am and look at your yard and have a bunch of stuff to do before work and you realize that you have to get out there and do an hour of grass seed roll repositioning and rehabilitation or your $3000 lawn project is going to look like hammered feces. These people really did not think through what any sort of wind at all will do to an installation without some sort of soil holding it down. Kind of a major oversight. I support US businesses and this is made in Santa Barbara, but come ON guys! You are seriously sinking my battleship over here. Get with the program and tell people how to make this stuff work. Topsoil, topsoil, topsoil. The turf is really nice once it gets going, but this is ridiculous.

The product is not user friendly. It’s very brittle and after you wet it, once it dries it just rolls right off the area with a slight breeze. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY!

I know it’s not easy to see but this product is awesome. This is the 9th day it’s been down!!! Started seeing grass on day 7. Followed the instructions implicitly. Kept wet three times per day. Prepped the site with inches of top soil after digging up entire area and I think that’s critical. Note: it will not work over existing grass and weeds no matter the height and they pointed that out. The product MUST directly touch the ground. Existing ground cover prevents that. I must add that I was very lucky with the weather as we had moderately hot, overcast daytime temps and cool evenings. Plus some rain so conditions were pristine. Easy to install and as you can see it worked for us. I’m so impressed! Great stuff!!!
