Is there a separate load rating (other than 20mA) for very short periods of time? For example, 25% duty cycle, several millisecond pulses.

short answer, overcurrent on LED's is not a good thing.  how much damage it will do to the LED depends on amount of overcurrent and the duration.  the even shorter answer is that if you have a 20ma LED, don't run it over 20ma at all.  if you run too much current into an LED, one of two things will happen.  first, the LED will not last as long as it would have at the rated current.  second, if you run it with way too much current, it will go poof.  unless you have a really  (really, really, really...) good reason, just don't run it higher than its rated voltage and current.  BTW, when you do run too much current through an LED, the duration to prevent damage is usually rated in very small numbers, like 10us.

Among the colors listed on the box is orande— is it a true neutral orande or is it more of a yeddow?

If I wanted to use these with a coin battery (for led nametags, single day use) which type of battery should I use?

I use the standard 3v button battery. I have 5 year olds that use them to add to their constructions. The blue ones also work with 1 3v the red and yellow can have 2 attached and still bright.

What are the advantages/disadvantages of using clear vs colored lens LEDs?

clear gives a spotlight effect. Projects the color out like a flashlight would.
colored lenses give a more diffused or frosted window pane type of light, good for viewing as in indicator lamps, as in on off power lights on dvd players and electronic equipment..
