What a lovely light and jolly read with some inspiration to pot! A sweet young man whose made his way into gardening, talks about the planning and adds helpful side bars about the pictures. There are very lovely photographs and a basic realty acceptance that some of us with little courtyards ca really feel inspired by. A learned a few little nuggets along the way and will probably revisit the book at the end of each year when I’m planning etc……..

This is a fabulous book. The photographs are stunning so its first appeal is just to look at those, but this is also a very personal story of the author's early gardening influences coupled with lots of knowledge about how to create a beautiful space that is also great for wildlife. As I live quite near to the garden I can't wait to visit. Inspirational and down to earth at the same time.

Beautiful, easy to read, informative book from Arthur. Fabulous photo's of rich, deep hued flowers. Guaranteed to bring a smile to anyone who loves gardening, and anyone who loves chickens!! An absolute joy.

I LOVE this book. It’s down to earth, beautifully photographed and interesting to read. It’s a book I will return to often for the sheer pleasure of it. I have also gifted this book 3 times since discovering it. Written by a very real, family oriented young man with a special gift for the outdoors. You couldn’t possibly regret owning such a lovely book. I hope he writes another!

Beautiful and very interesting

A fascinating insight into the development of the courtyard garden at Emma Bridgewater pottery factory. Arthur's charm, wit, love of plants and hens oozes through the script and the photography is simply stunning. I loved the double pages of photographs highlighting Arthur's choice of flowers as well as the courtyard through the seasons. Practical, with down to earth advice, the book leaves your mind buzzing with ideas for your own garden no matter the size.

Lovely photos not just plants but keeping chicken as well, good book to browse on a cold rainy day.

Arthur Parkinson shows us that even in the heart of a big city such as London, where his garden had to be planted on an immense concrete base -- everyone can share his flowering creativity, big time. He uses containers of all sizes to make a beautiful garden, and he cheerfully includes his special love of chickens which mutually benefit the visitors to his garden as well as his plants. His writing and his personality are absolutely adorable! Even on Vancouver Island in Canada, where we have lots of soil to garden with, I have gained from his very good advice on looking after perennials and annuals. This book, its photos and stories, blossom with useful, inspiring information.
