We used this grab bar on the exterior of a home where we built a deck for an older couple. He needed something near the steps to hold onto while he chatted with neighbors.

Ok, but
Does the basic job. However, a couple of things to look out for. Be very careful when moving the rings back-and-forth and drilling the holes, because the finish can be marred very easily. Also, when installing over drywall , do not crank the screws down hard because you will deform the screw plate, and you will not be able to screw on the cover rings.

Bad description
When this grab bar arrived it was about the diameter of a drinking straw ... we promptly returned it !
