A well-built Yamaha with a decent sound
This guitar is well-built with a decent sound - bright highs and moderate lows. The finish is nice, and I especially like the wooden edging on the body, which gives it the feel of a higher-end instrument. The neck is thin and smooth, and it seems theyโve improved the finish compared to A-series models from 5-6 years ago. The fretboard is comfortable to play, though some of the fret edges are a bit sharp. Itโs worth noting that while the guitar comes with a sound hole cover and Elixir strings, there was no truss rod key included. Action is a bit high, so you may want to lower the bridge.

Wonderful sound and I love the look
Wonderful sound and I love the look. Action was great right out of the box. Put some medium elixirs on and I am good to go. Shopped around a lot for this one. Sleeper guitar for sure.

Best guitar for the money!
Excellent guitar. Wonderful sound. String to fret clearance was very good. Easy to play and the sound from the pickup and preamp was terrific.

Great sound and more importantly - great value.
I have had an A1R for years. I bought it after trying out at least 30-40 guitars, including several in the 1-3K range. Great sound and more importantly - great value. You'll need to spend 2-3 times or more for a similar sounding Taylor. Love it! FYI: I have been playing for 40+ years.

Great sound and feel
I bought the A1R with the Tobacco Sunburst finish at Guitar Center last week. There were only a few people in the store and while I was contemplating a US made Taylor or Gibson the price was just too much. I ended up trying most of their guitars in the $100-$1000 - (this one was 599) range and this one was the best. It has a very nice feel - very good precision. Every fret on every string is perfect. The sound is full and a little brighter than my last Tacoma guitar. The sound reminded me of a nice Ovation that I played a few years ago. Everyone that has heard it has commented on how nice it sounds.
