This CHITA Elvin recliner offers a near perfect level of functionality
I'm sure there are many kinds of customers with many kinds of needs and preferences for a recliner, or in my case, for a dedicated A/V room chair. So, first let me explain mine... This is replacing a 30+ year old Danish recliner for which the top grain leather surfaces were still in very good condition, but the mechanicals have been steadily declining over the past few years. The CHITA recliner caught my eye because of the resemblance to a Coalesse Bob chair (not a recliner) which we used in the lobby of the national HQ of the German semiconductor company I worked for, for 35 years. Those chairs always felt like they were designed just for me, as regards height, support, and comfort. But they are not inexpensive, coming in at about $2900 in the US, and lacking the ability to recline or an ottoman. I am familiar with some Scandinavian made chairs, having shopped around and bought a Stressless for my wife in 2022, but not really being enamored of it. It was close to the Coalesse Bob price, but did recline and has an Ottoman. Just doesn't feel like it was designed for my back and physical structure (6'1", 220lb, into walking, hiking, and working with heavy power tools- same jeans size for 4-5 decades, and I'm in my mid 70's) I do a lot of wood working and mechanical prototyping for a small outfit back East (I'm in Idaho) so even things like the basic chair structure with steamed folded high density plywood caught my eye- including the use of high density felt damper pads as primary contact points after one inserts and tightens the mounting screws. I did cheat a little, and though I used the supplied Allen head wrenches to start the bolts into the threaded inserts, I finished up with my own DeWalt mm Hex wrench tool. My opinion is that whoever developed this chair is either clairvoyant, or an SME. (Subject Matter Expert). Let me explain why, from my viewpoint. * Very high quality self centering swivel bearings on the chair and ottoman. Almost no effort to rotate the chair side to side, (unlike every other Danish style recliner I've bought) and it smoothly, (not to fast, not too slow) returns to the centered position after you get up. * Excellent design of seating surfaces and support (for me, anyway)- I've had major back surgery decades ago, functionally I'm fine, but some chairs or seats bug me- for example, my Toyota FJ Cruiser is fine for 600 mile drives, but my wife's seats in her Lexus RX350 just cannot be adjusted to provide the right support for either me or her for long drives. Firm, where it needs to be. Again, feels a lot like my memory of the Coalesse chairs, in the upright position. * Additionally, high quality top grain leather, in what I call an old school weight and style similar to my 3 decades plus recliner that I had to retire, though the leather surfaces were still fine. * VERY good recliner functionality- a simple pull up lever on the right to release the lock, very easy to move into position, and release the lever and the back stays where you put it until you pull it up again. Reclines far enough to make naps comfortable for me. (Mind you, I'm not the princess and the pea sort) * Easy to adjust headrest (well, for me, much easier than the other newer more expensive recliners we have), with adequate height range and three angle positions. Any drawbacks? Well, since it seems designed to work so well for me, it would not work well for my 45 yo nephew- Why? well, the seating area on most recliners is of a general size to accommodate a wide range of folks of different sizes and degrees of adipose. Most recliners have a seating area 24" wide. The CHITA Elvin (its official name in most markets, though not used in the Amazon listing) has a seating area width of 18". Some folks may undoubtedly say, "Well, what do you expect, made in Vietnam (Asia), for small people, right". Well, I'm not a small person. But my proportions are obviously much different from my 45 year old nephew who is about 5" shorter and 60-70 lb heavier. So, this chair may not be a good fit (or possibly even a feasible fit) for him. But me, I'm totally charmed with the operational characteristics, the comfort, the rock solid physicality (no wobble or tilt getting into it) - maybe you could say this is an engineer's recliner. Oh, given it is well constructed, it is heavy, but that comes with the territory.

Very happy with this chair !
I read lots of reviews and decided to buy one for myself and one for my husband. I have cervical stenosis, cervical arthritis and Degenerative Disc Disease so I needed a chair that was supportive in all the right places and this chair hits the mark for me. It is a firm chair but is exactly what helps alleviate a lot of my pain. I especially like that it has adjustments for the headrest, I find it to be one of the most important features for my comfort. It also has great lumbar support and hugs your body well I’m all the right places. The ottoman makes it possible to recline all the way with feet up and you can watch tv comfortably or rest. It also is very well made. It’s a very sturdy chair and the leather is very soft and high end looking. I had no issues with assembly, was extremely easy. I just turned it over the edge of my couch to hold the weight and was able to install the bottom legs. I felt the price was very fair considering I got two chairs for what I might have paid for one of similar style. I’d recommend it and I definitely don’t have any regrets with my purchase.

Well-crafted Style and Comfort
I was intrigued by this recliner and initially hesitated to purchase it. It didn't look like every other recliner out there, but we needed a minimal size and we loved the mid-century modern styling. Similar looking chairs from that time period are thousands of dollars, and they don't have the same recliner function. We took a chance, and ordered it. It came in two boxes, but came with clear instructions for assembly. I put it together after unpacking in just a couple of minutes with the included Allen wrench. I easily carried this up from our garage out of the box without straining, and I am only a couple of years away from 70. It is substantial but not overly heavy. It is a firm sit, but incredibly comfortable. We ordered the black leather and it feels like quality leather, not thin. It is a true black color and matches the accents around our living room. The headrest adjusts up and down and tilts. I am 6'1" and weigh 240 pounds and had no difficulty relaxing. It lays back quite far, farther than I expected, but it is smooth and noiseless. It will twist when you get out and then rotate back to its original position. My wife is 5'4" and weighs about 125 pounds and loves it as well. It is stylish and comfortable, and incredibly well-crafted. Classy. I should not have hesitated ordering this.

Decent with a couple of notes
This is a pretty heavy-duty leather and wood chair that is a nice design and, so far, seems well built. Pretty comfortable to sit in for long periods of time. My second shipping box (with the top parts of the chair and ottoman) arrived badly beaten up with very slightly dented leather. Customer service was quick and remedied my situation. A couple of things that I really wish were different about this chair and ottoman: 1. Both the chair and ottoman rotate, but have fixed resting positions. If you swing either, they will swing back to this resting position. I like this feature except that they are both heavy (a good thing from a build perspective) and getting the two to line up is a bit of work. You can't line them up by rotating the upper parts, only by getting on the floor and rotating the bases. It's a bit of a challenge (especially on carpet) and I don't know what a good solution for this might be. 2. The headrest is adjustable in two directions: front-to-back and up-down. Good thing right? It could have been. The front-to-back works fine when you understand how it works. The up-down is designed a little bit like a car headrest without, however, the option to lock it in place. And it really doesn't have enough snap to hold itself in place. If it's raised and you put any kind of pressure on it it will push down and usually at a random angle. Pretty irritating. All-in-all it's a good chair for a decent price. Not sure that I'd purchase it again though given my time with it so far.

My Favorite Chair
I've had this chair for a month now, so I feel I can give it a balanced review, and I love it! It's really comfortable and I think it looks great. The leather feels high quality (I'm no expert on leather so that's just my subjective opinion) and the teal color and overall 'mid-century modern' vibe works for me. As far as comfort goes the recline mechanism and the headrest adjustment work well to transition between upright sitting and a more relaced angle. The leg rest "ottoman" is great when the chair angle is back a little. I suspect some people might want to add a thin lumbar support cushion but personally don't need to Assembly was easy but it was a little confusing that there were two deliveries - the first was both bases and the second the chair and ottoman bodies. Some hardware (bolts/screws) was included with the first delivery but it turned out it was replaced by newer hardware in the second delivery. I worked with vendor support through email and phone to resolve the confusion about that quickly. The first delivery box (containing the metal bases) was slightly damaged but there was no damage to the contents except a small scratch on a rubber bumper that wasn't enough to complain about (it's not visible in use), but the vendor should maybe think about beefing up their packaging a little.

Seems premium quality but missing parts
Received my chair 8 days ago (Oct 12) , just right now (Oct 20) I tried to set it up and the bolts for the chair are missing. Separate bag for the ottoman were there for the chair nothing. The last thing I wanted was to write a review like this after spending $1000, but after that much money a bag of bolts should not be overlooked, unacceptable in my eyes, should've included a spare bag in the other box just so this never happens. And I did read some other people had the same issue. Not for this price, unacceptable. I'll update the review once I can actually sit in it. For now 2 stars mainly because I can tell the build quality seems really good. Leather feels and smells premium and seems like it will be comfortable, but I wouldn't know because I'm missing 4 tiny cheap bolts!!!!! And yes I did want to just go and get the 4 m6 bolts and not even worry about any of this , but they specifically said not to do that on the instructions and to contact them immediately so here I am. Sitting on the ottoman writing this dumb review. I'll update the rest of the review once I get the bolts from CHITA and hopefully very very soon. This little thing is comfortable but I think it was meant for my legs not my butt Update 10/23 I ended up buying correct length screws and washers and just installed it. Chita replied quickly they said they're out of stock at the moment but they will send them to me ASAP. They replied the next morning. I still want to use the correct ones provided by chita but they're still the same bolts don't see it being an issue for a week or so. The chair is amazing. Very comfortable. First thing I do when I get home is just plant my butt there for a few minutes to enjoy it. It's that good. Leather smells amazing. Build quality is top notch. The back support raising lowering handle is very well made, made from metal and feels very good to press. Back sopport raises and lowers very smoothly not too fast. And just yesterday I realized not only can you raise and lower the separate head support, but there a way to adjust it backwards / forwards in 3 different positions. That was a pleasant surprise. Overall highly recommend it. Thinking of buying another one but I want to see how well it holds up for a few months. I'm a relatively big guy at 240lb so I should be able to see if there's any issues relatively soon. Good job Chita. Don't forget the parts next time. This is a $1000 product.

Decent but no better
I recently saw a video which strongly recommended this product because it offers some key features that more expensive chairs don't have. The short of it is that the chair is decent. It has good comfort and support for an average sized person, and the recline/tilt function works well. The bases to both the chair and ottoman are quite heavy, so you may require two people to put it together. Once assembled, it feels sturdy and secure. When the product arrived, the boxes were in good shape. It definitely requires two average people to carry as it's quite heavy, and the shape requires some pivot skills to get through narrow spaces. Once I unboxed the chair parts, I found like many other reviewers have mentioned, the bolts were not at the correct length or angle to attach to the base. I attached a photo of how the bolts are secured to this review, and when you look closer it makes a lot of sense. This is a very cheap way to accomplish what they are looking for, and it's also relatively fragile and prone to failure. The customer support team responded in a timely manner and offered to replace the body parcel at no cost. A few days later, an entire replacement box showed up including the chair body, headrest and ottoman. The replacement chair body was not defective, so I was able to put together my chair. I'm giving this product 3 stars for a few reasons. The first reason is that I find the full price of $1,100 a bit expensive for the chair. When you look closer, I think it's easier to understand. The aforementioned attachment bolts are very crudely secured. The grommets for the head rest on both of my bodies are about 1" away from the insert to place the head rest which requires straining the leather. I find the chair itself to be comfortable, but I have doubts it will last for much more than 3 years with regular use. I had a positive customer support experience which resolved my issue, but the replacement box also included a headrest and ottoman body which did not need replacing. This was extremely wasteful and it was recommended to "feel free to keep and dispose of it yourself". Finally, I feel that the packaging appears to be sturdy on the outside, but body pieces have minimal protection and the bolts have just a little hard styrofoam to protect them from impact during transit. I've had the chair for about two weeks and I am already planning on saving for a replacement a few years down the line.

This chair and ottoman are so beautiful! A modern take on the Eames chair (as mentioned in another review) and, imo, more comfortable. It sits a tiny bit higher and makes getting in and out easier. it goes perfectly with our Thomasville bent wood dining chairs from years ago and blends with our decor. We found it sits comfortably. Note: This is not your Grandma’s Overstuffed Recliner!! Steer clear if that is what you are looking for. This one is firm and seems like there is lumbar support in the way the cushions are filled. It has a swivel that returns to original position and leather that feels like butter. It looks beautiful from every angle and isn’t cheap and flimsy, but well made, sturdy and heavy. Be aware that this comes in two very very heavy boxes!! The packaging seems like it goes on forever when you are unpacking things, especially the bases. In spite of a damaged box, the chair was so well packed that there were no marks or dings. But, be prepared to have help bringing it into your place and having someone hold the base, at least on the chair, while you screw it on. For the record, we had no trouble screwing this together. The hardware, including the Allen Wrench, were attached to the chair wrap and easy to find as they are on a red ribbon in a red plastic bag. I can see where it might be missed among all the other packaging, so just be aware. So if modern is your style, buy this chair now.

Wicked comfy chair for cheap!!
What a great chair!! Super solidly built with great real leather (not a fan of PU fake). Wickedly comfortable with supportive cushioning, not that super soft garbage that contributes to back problems. Feels very ergonomic with excellent back support. Excellent simple mechanical (hate power, never understood the need) mechanism for recline. I have a Stressless Ekornes as well and this one comes very very close in quality for 1/2 the price. I say go for it!

Easy to Assemble and Great Match
I waited a little while before writing this review because our house was still under construction when the chair arrived, and I wanted to set it up properly before sharing my thoughts. Assembly was simple and didn’t take long. The fabric looks very nice and feels durable, and the chair itself is very comfortable for relaxing. The ottoman makes it even more enjoyable to sit in. I had previously ordered two recliners from the same company, and this chair matches them very well. Overall, I’m very happy with this purchase.
