what size is coupling that connects the main motor to the rectangle piece that spins the three long skewers? Without this piece my grill is useless :(

It depends on the manufacturer of the grill, they vary from 6.25 to 6.75mm square. Our grills are 6.75 +/- 5mm.

What type of paint is used ?

The grill will rust no matter what type of paint used. I have it dry in shed, and it still rusts no matter what. I line it up with aluminum foil before I put charcoal in it to extend its life.
