Arrived bulging with off taste; no replacement option
The bottle (still with plastic on) arrived bulging, which concerned me. It “popped” when opened, and smelled fermented. The taste was sweet, but similar to pineapple tepache. This is not meant to be a fermented food. Since another reviewer’s bottle didn’t look like mine I tried to get a replacement, but this item cannot be returned or replaced. That is disappointing, especially at $40 a jar. Throwing mine out because I don’t want to risk making anyone in my house sick. Bummer because this is supposed to be a good source of nutrition.

Made of natural bamboo shot. Fresh but very sweet.
I can tell this food is made from real bamboo shot. It is fresh because the texture of the pieces feels tender and crispy when I bite on it. There is no yellowing or molding. It is preserved with sugar because it tastes very sweet. This is both good and bad. The good thing is sugar is a natural preservative. There is no concern about chemical preservative being used. The bad thing is you take in so much sugar when eating this bamboo shot preserve. And I am the person who don't like to eat sweet food. Another thing I want to point out is that there is no nutrition facts on the label on the bottle. So, there is no way to know how much sugar I'm taking in. According to Indian tradition, this food is good for growth and for boosting digestive and immune system. So far, I haven't seen any side effect when taking it. Being all natural and rich in fiber, I would like to continue to take it. Will report later on long term use. It is quite pricy though.
