Works great!
So far this DLI meter has been great. We get a lot of weird mid day shaded areas in my backyard so I wasn’t sure what qualified as full sun areas or not, this has already been extremely helpful to know where I can plant things. I just go out near it, open the app, hit the button and I can see all the data on my phone, it’s really easy to use.

Bad product; can't read results
This item is beyond the return date but I wanted to let folks know my experience. The item didn't come with instructions on what app to use to get results. I got a response from the seller and downloaded the app but the results will never show on the app. I've taken my phone out there and clicked the button on the device and see that there are results from before I bought the product but no new results come in. I wish I wouldn't have given it the time that I did to see if it worked and would have returned it in time.

Great tool for inquiring minds - and my cacti approve!
I have a few racks of cacti on my deck, and I wanted to make sure they were getting enough sun. Visual observation is helpful, but I'm not willing to spend the time to get detailed data that way. This handy little gadget does exactly what I need! I recorded several full days at different locations on my plant racks and gained a clear picture of which areas get the best light. The results it provided seem to be accurate and consistent with my observations. I was surprised that the second shelf from the top really doesn't get as much light as I thought it did - lesson learned, and cacti happy! I found the app easy to use. Folks, don't confuse this gadget for the ones that cost 10X as much and connect to the internet - of COURSE you have to get within bluetooth range to download the data! When I want to upload the data to my phone, it's a simple matter of pushing the button on the sensor, going into the app, and choosing the device. The data shows up on my phone immediately. It's super easy to understand the chart, and if I wanted to export the data in a chart for further analysis, the app makes it easy. I love this gadget! I'm enough of a science geek that I keep it out there and check it every once in a while, because I'm curious. If you're data-driven and curious, give it a try.

Bluetooth better than expected
In contrast to the impression I got from descriptions and reviews, you do not need to keep the app open or the phone nearby for the light meter to work. It keeps recording while disconnected, and when you want to read the results, you push the button on the meter and then click in the app. Seems pretty similar in accuracy to the $300 one I had before this that died due to rainstorms (though I can’t directly compare them). This one so far hasn’t died from rain though I haven’t left it out in major storms.

Nice addition to my grow light
Great and useful tool for finicky plants to monitor and adjust your dli.

Don’t bother
This worked great for about two weeks. It was helpful in the information it gave me. Now the green light no longer comes on and I cannot connect to it to download any information. Wasn’t worth what I spent on it.

Very inexpensive DLI logger
If you shop around, you're not likely to find a DLI logger anywhere near this low price, and that makes it worth a look. It's simple enough to set up, and depends on an app to view the data. I've attached a screen shot from my unit, placed a few days ago in a partial/mostly shaded area in my San Diego backyard. Average December DLI for this area without shade, according to the "U.S. Daily Light Integral Map", is 20-25, so these numbers are plausible. To connect the app to the logger, you need to press the yellow button to start up bluetooth communications. You can then view the current collected data (as in my screen shot). The chart is useful and easy to scroll through; I'm not sure what the numbers and buttons below the graph are for. When you're not near the logger, you can use the "record" button on the Devices page to see the data collected in the past. Bottom line: for very little, this product gives you an easy way to see how much illumination you're getting from the sun or from indoor grow lamps. And there are plenty of resources online if you want to learn more about DLI and how it affects your garden.

Would Not Work
If I could give zero stars I would. It would not even turn on. The tiny screwdriver would not catch the screws to turn them to take the back off and replace the battery.

Very Good - Outstanding Value
Outstanding quality for the money, works well on day one, phone app worked straight away. In our case we are using this device to get an approximate measure of sunlight levels through each day. This is to help understand micro power generation in small devices that is possible in various shaded locations. This is not a device for measuring true solar power potential, it detects the frequencies of light used by plants which is not too different from energy generation, thus we get a good approximation with a simple adjustment. Solar energy meters are relatively expensive, this does the job for us.

dli
