Genmitsu L8 Laser Engraver, 20W (20000mW) Laser Cutter Built-in Acrylic Enclosure with Vent, Air Assist Pump, Honeycomb, Camera, All-in-one Plug and Play Engraving Machine, Safety Class 1

I bought this Genmitsu L8 in July and have used it pretty extensively since then - mostly for laser cutting wood but a bit of engraving on wood and metal. I found it very easy to set up and get started although the instructions are a bit simplistic and I still could use a better description of the focus and power levels for cutting and engraving various materials. Even after using it for months and it would have been helpful to have a better explanation of the line interval/resolution but I figured it out by watching YouTube videos for other laser machines. I installed Lightburn instead of the stock software and that has worked very well. I find that this 20W laser is very capable and it meets the specifications and cuts cleanly and quickly through 5mm plywood and does a great job engraving aluminum, plastic and steel - I have had a bit less success with wood which has been coming out less crisp than I’d like but maybe I need to spend more money for better wood surfaces and based on the excellent results from metal and plastic, I’m thinking my wood engraving issues are either cheap wood or user error. Overall I’m very pleased with my purchase and I use it constantly and it meets the specifications claimed by the manufacturer. EDIT: I found the power, speed, and line interval settings for various materials and thicknesses on the Sainsmart/Genmitsu website after I wrote the review.

I purchased this laser cutter based on it's features. I liked that it had a complete enclosure and safety features. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be much in the way of Quality control. When I opened the box and removed the unit I noticed a loose screw in the box, not good... I then attempted to access the instructions located on the USB drive. The drive couldn't be read. I tried it on three different computers and none of them would recognize the drive. I contacted the vendor and explained the issues. They did respond quickly with a link to the software that I could download and they asked for a photo of the screw. I sent it them A few days later they told me the screw was an adjustment screw for the ways and asked me to confirm one was missing, which I did. I did ask how they could send me a unit that wasn't properly adjusted but, I haven't heard back regrading that question. I received the laser cutter on June 11th and haven't even tried it because I'm concerned that it wasn't properly tested at the factory. I'm hoping that SainSmart gets back to me and addresses my concerns soon. Otherwise, I'll have to return the unit.

I like the Genmitsu laser engraver a lot. It is a nice package with a decent sized (16 x 16) work area. Great value fully enclosed and ventilated system with camera. Pretty much plug and play with Lightburn (read the first cut guide). It does quality engraving at very high speed (25,000 mm/min) and cuts cleaner than my 24 watt laser of another brand. You need an enclosure and ventilation. If you buy most other units you will have to buy as extra. This comes complete, and is well put together. Runs very quietly as well. Very happy.

I am new to the laser engraving so didn't know what to buy. I did have difficulty setting it up from the instruction booklet. After a few days of not being able to link my laptop with the engraver, I wrote to the company and they responded within a day. I didn't connect the camera cable and did not unlock the safety switch. Once done the machine fired up and connected with my laptop. I had trouble finding the camera COM link because for whatever reason what installed on mine was different than the instructions indicated. But so far it runs great and I've made a few small things. Still learning about speed and power settings. I decided to try the Lightburn software trial and although a little complicated, once understood it is a good program. There are great tutorials which are easy to follow. I gave it a four star rating because I haven't used it very long. I really love that this machine somes with a cover and air assist - no need to wear glasses. Has great safety features and is fairly quiet. And you don't have to set anything up - just plug in the cables and go. Customer support is great if you have trouble. I had written several times with computer support issues, which was mostly my lack of knowledge. They responded each time within a day with easy to understand instruction. Hoping to come back after I use for a while and give a five star rating. You won't be disappointed if you are a first time user. If I really get the hang of this, I may jump up to the 40W.

The L8 came packaged very well and everything was secured inside. There is not really any assembly except for the laser. There was not specific instructions on the installation of the laser, but it is straight forward. First make sure the locking mechanism is backed out. The handle is spring loaded so when you pull it out you can move the handle without turning the tightening screw. The v guide it travels on has a clearance on the bottom. By placing the laser as high as it will go the laser is will go into the channel. You have to push a little on the clearance side to seat it. After that it was good to go and the directions outlined the next steps. When the weather warms up a little more I will put this through its paces. I did not get the exhaust purifier so I do not want to try any heavy cutting unless I can be in a well ventilated area. In general the construction is excellent and should provide good cutting and engraving. I was using a 3080 CNC Genmitsu for laser engraving, but the power of the laser and focusing made it difficult to get setup right. I am hoping this machine will replace that equipment and I will put it back to CNC use. I am also looking forward to trying the camera out on lightburn. The function would save a lot of time if the consistency is there. I was also surprised by safety functions. The key switch and e-stop are the more general safety options. The ones I really appreciate are the interlocked enclosure, flame detection, and tilt detection. These features really help instill confidence that the machine will generate a safe experience. In all I think the L8 is good value for what you get. Also the Sainsmart support has been top notch for me and having purchased cnc, 3d printers, and lasers from them, I am sure they will provide excellent support on the L8. Once I get everything dialed in I will try to share more pictures.

First off, it arrived sooner than expected. It arrived with a side panel cracked but that was resolved quickly by their Customer Support. They sent the part out just as soon as I reported the issue. Customer service is great! 👍 As for the machine, this laser is so easy to set up and use. I was set up and engraving in about 15-20 minutes. I had previously downloaded LightBurn and had it ready to go when I got the machine. Great machine, Great Customer Service and easy to use and set up!!!! Will be purchasing another! p.s. : I purchased the upgraded 40w diode module after and I installed it in like 3 minutes and it worked flawlessly. Such a great machine!!

Not worth the hassle to setup. The packaging was solid but there was a ton of quality issues. The casing was flimsy, you’ll have 2 usb cables to your computer either flimsy connections. There was no assembly instructions and the guides were out of date. The connection to the engraver was flaky and none of the drivers worked. Don’t waste your time or money on this product. Spend the extra $200 for an xTool.

Instead of just putting in a bunch of photos, I decided to make a quick video - I would highly recommend this 20W Diode Laser - I have only had it 3 weeks, but the learning curve is awesome! I have since purchased the 40W Laser which is interchangable with the 20W. I have been unable to successfully align this laser, it works fine most of the time - but the inability to get close to other objects and KNOW that it will cut where I am telling it to cut - well, I am not willing to risk a project - so the 40W requires me to use a new piece of wood for every project until I can figure things out.

Passer de 5w à 20w c’est le top. Débutant dans la gravure laser je ne peux que d’être satisfait du produit. Juste un petit regret l’aspiration qui me semble un peu faible. En ce qui concerne la livraison je craignais de recevoir avec de la casse, mais l’emballage est parfait.
