Are the pads removable? I only need padding on the outside part of the ankle

No, it is a gel like pad and is permanent to each side. I only need it on the outside as well but it is comfortable enough that is does not matter. Hope this helps

One size fits most, but my mother has a large foot and swelling in her legs due to a heart condition and it works well for her.
