Yes. I've washed them several times since I got them. They come out just fine.

Are both sides of the cloth the same or is one side rougher?

One side is "rougher"... but both sides are still very soft.

Can these towels be used for pat drying skin instead of exfoliating?

Absolutely. These are so kind to the skin! I have had mine for several weeks now and look forward to using them!
