Francis and Clare, Saints of Assisi (Vision Books)

Loved the content, not impressed with the obvious misprints
I read this book with my 8th grade granddaughter as part of the Mother of Divine Grace school curriculum. I see the Ignatius book is a reprint from a different publisher. We loved this book, mostly. I loved the story, the lesson and the writing of Helen Walker Homan. What I find annoying and the reason for the 4 stars is it seems that no one at Ignatius Press likely proofread the book. There were various typos in the book, such as "and" being an "ad", etc. When I complained about this to my granddaughter her response was, "Grandma, it is just "auto - correct" and "You can't expect them to proof every book they publish". I find these two lessons (rely on auto-correct and no need to proofread your work) as a serious flaw in Catholic Home teaching. Any company that publishes quality books for education needs to teach the right message in their action and quality, not just the content.

Good book for boys and girls on these popular saints
Although the writing style of the Vision Book Series tends to be rather antiquated, the presentation of the saints as real human beings makes it easier for kids to see that everyone was born with the possibility of sainthood. This book in particular, with the demonstration of the truly human relationships of Francis and Clare with other people as well as between the themselves, seems to make it easier for children (and adults) to be able to identify with saints and the path toward sainthood. It's well written and readable for school age children, and can capture the mind and imagination of younger children when read aloud. It's a great book for family read-aloud times.

Great Book!
I read this book as a child and loved it.I am pleasantly surprised to see it still in print."Francis and Clare, Saints of Assisi" is immensely readable and entertaining enough for an elementary school reader.Helen Walker Homan provides a nice introduction to two quite human saints: a nice Catholic primer in the development of faith.
