In this prequel to The Hunger Games, a young Coriolanus Snow - decades before becoming the tyrannical President of Panem - battles his instincts between good and evil as he mentors Lucy Gray Baird in the 10th Hunger Games.

Great movie in the Hunger Games series
My daughter bought this for me as a gift. If you like the Hunger Games series, you will love this movie as it provide interesting background on Professor Snow in his younger years. Can’t say more without ruining the movie, but this is a really good off spin to the series.

Must-Have for "Hunger Games" Fans; Zegler Is Well Cast
A surprisingly faithful adaptation of Suzanne Collins' outstanding new entry in the "Hunger Games" series. Of course, the film, by necessity, condenses the action and leaves out some details, but that's why you also should read the book. You're getting a 2.5-hour movie here that covers all three sections of the book. Tom Blyth, a newcomer to me, is terrific as a teenage Snow. Rachel Zegler, like her or not, is perfectly cast as Lucy Gray Baird, and her singing is outstanding. My favorite cast member, though, is Viola Davis as Dr. Gaul. She's deliciously creepy and intense, as only Davis can be. The Blu-ray includes an 8-part documentary on the making of the film, a separate audio recording of Zegler singing "The Hanging Tree," and an open letter from author Collins.

Awesome Prequel!
This is an awesome prequel to " The Hunger Games" which is currently available on Blu-Ray at a great price! I was upgrading my D.V.D.'s... actually I thought they were missing. So, when I saw " The Hunger Games at such a great deal I purchased them. The deal was so good it allowed me to get this Blu-Ray D.V.D. 2 for. after finding my missing D.V.D's do I have regrets? Absolutely not! Now I have the complete collection on both Blu-Ray & D.V.D.!!! Actually, for the deal that's going on for " The Hunger Games" Blu-Ray set I could sell my D.V.D.'s & still come out ahead. The sound & visual quality is top notch & the story line compelling setting up the original " Hunger Games" franchise. a plus for any movie collection. even as a standalone film. But with the great deal on the complete original " Hunger Games" Blu-Rays I wouldn't wait around to long. They may cost $100 in the near future. So, get it while its hot. If my review on " The Hunger Games" makes it near the top, cross reference the 2 reviews.

The Nuances of the Book Were Missed.
LOOK...If we're talking about from the viewpoint of someone who has not read the book and is only looking for a movie experience, this is a 4/5 star movie for me. You get more hunger games, a good story and a kind of more fleshed out romance than those of the original Hunger Games movies... after all, and no spoiler warning other than this one cause they have been out for years Peeta was only chosen because Gale betrayed Katniss. However, and full warning for spoilers to anyone who hasnt read the books...This is a 3 star, maybe less than that movie. The book Coriolanus is a pensive character. He spends a lot of time thinking about what the actions happening to him mean for his image not only to others but to himself and that is entirely lost in this movie. Of course, no one would want to see a 2 and half hour long movie of inner monologue but Twilight did it just fine and it's longer by almost a hundred pages. There is very little mention of how poor the Snow family was and how much they were struggling. They are slapped into a run down apartment when the book says that their apartment is fine, its just kind of barebones since they've had to sell everything. In the book, Coryo's cheating wasn't immediately apparent to him nor was he ever warned that cheating would mean expulsion from the academy (I mean, its a given but..) but in this movie he comes across as much more aware and willing to help Lucy Gray beyond his duties as a mentor than that of the book.Certain characters are killed off, missing entirely from the movie in a manner that I just didnt really appreciate. Both the book and the movie deserved a Part 2 but I can understand is Collins didnt want to milk her fans for mor---Wait. She made a second book anyways. Oh well.
