Real close to Worcestershire yet different
To describe this product without specifically comparing it to (Lea & Perrins/traditional) WS made no sense to me. Most of us have used, tasted or are familiar with traditional WS. First, not that this matters, but the consistency of PBP is slightly thicker. So if you're dousing a steak, PBP will hang a little tighter. I enjoy L&P on a steak occasionally but it runs away, it's very thin. But I chase. I digress. So, the 'meat' of the matter is flavor. What will you sense as the difference between L&P and PBP ? Again, the basic 'motif' is so similar if you were to offer someone a 'one off' sample of PBP, they'd definitely use the word, 'worcestershire' in their response. But that's more directional vs. comparitive. I have two souffle cups in front of me, one with each product. As I toggle my finger back and forth between the cups, there IS a distinct difference. I say this as, if I took a blindfold test, I'm certain I could tell which one was being presented. So to try to simplify, I would offer the following basic observation: PBP has a noticable mild sweetness that is apparent IMMEDIATELY as it hits your pallette, but it's not a bothersome sweetness. The L&P lingers smoothly and may have a slightly harsher finish, although PBP finishes nicely and still bites a bit with the peppers they are using. ( Gosh, sounds like I'm reviewing perfume...) I think the perceived sweetness is the most noticable difference in these two. They're both great alone but if I'm cooking, I think having them both as options is the way to go. Some dishes I just don't want too sweet. As far as a steak condiment, personal choice, but I'm not going to be without either of these going forward. I'd say get yourself a bottle of this.
