just got this for my granddaughter bday so I will see what she thinks but just looking through it I think it is very detailed and has lots of info for those wanting to draw dogs in any posture, activity, face expressions, etc....

I've had some basic drawing classes but still am far from seeing myself as an artist. So, for me, this is a delightful book. It isn't everything. It is short on many techniques, but there is plenty of information to get a beginner started. The author is a very good artist in her own right. She renders a wide variety of dogs very well. Most of them are drawn without any distinctive character or flair, but that makes it easier for the student-reader to focus on the basics of drawing the dog. I learned a lot from the book. As usual, what I learned most was the same thing I learned in my drawing classes, that I tend to go through life not really seeing. So, the author did me a major service in reminding me to look and to see. I also got a lot out of her descriptions and drawings of the different breeds of dogs. Finally, it is a fairly good-sized book as it is. If the author were to include everything some of the more negative reviewers suggest she should have included, I'm afraid it would be another 100-200 pages long. That would make it a pain to carry around. I do recommend this book for all but the best, most experienced artists.
