SPSS Survival Manual

You are not alone... the SPSS Survival Manual is here with you. I owe Julie Pallant dinner.
First of all, I love you, Julie Pallant. I have read Andy Field's book; I have read Green and Salkind, and this is BY FAR the most user friendly book on SPS out there. It is inviting to read--lots of bullets, numbering and whitespace. It cuts right to the doggone chase if you are a nervous SPSS user. You will need to have solid basic understanding of Stats, but even if you only have a basic understanding, this book will make you feel like you can conquer the UNIVERSE. All those terms you learn get jumbled together during other books and classes--and as you know, if you don't click on the right button in SPSS your graph looks like a pre-K drawing. This holds your hand while you do it.

a user friendly book for EVERYONE analyzing data
This book is awesome. From the beginner to the intermediate user of SPSS. The software changes are frustrating and Pallant has been nimble in her ability to help students find their way quickly and easily. Statistical principles don't come naturally to most of my students, so I love that she has broken things down to simple terms. I use her book as a quick reference to coach my students through analyzing research questions. I own the paperback edition of the book and it is beat up so badly (in just a few weeks of traveling back and forth in my bag) that I decided to leave that one in my office and ALSO purchase the kindle edition for home use. The book is just that good!

Textbook for applied statistics in health informatics
Use this as textbook in applied statistics class for graduate and undergrads. Clear and concise. If you are faculty be sure to ask for the instructor's materials. I DO NOT recommend the eBook version especially for students. Ebooks don't have page numbers and even location numbers change depending on device. While I love my Kindle, not for this book.

That’ll be a no
Purchased as an accessory to my textbook. Doesn’t provide much clarification for beginners. I found it difficult to comprehend

Get started right away with SPSS using this text!
Truly a superb book for application & use of SPSS! Detail is in other texts like Fields, so an excellent adjunct to a new user of SPSS (or an old user who is new to the PC version of the software)!

Excellent book!
Excellent book. I originally bought the Kindle version but to my dismay it did not have page numbers making it impossible to follow along with the instructor in my Advanced Stats course. This makes learning how to use SPSS a breeze and even includes examples of how to report test results using APA 6th edition formatting.

This book is a life saver, and I only ...
This book is a life saver, and I only wish it were a bit more comprehensive. Beware the typo in cross-tabulation effect sizes using Cramer V. For R-1, C-1 = 1, the small criterion should be 0.1, not .01. This error keeps getting moved forward through successive editions!

Compact but informative
I bought this survival manual for writing my master thesis and it has been a great help. It aptly summarizes the most important information in a comprehensible manner. I would recommend it to anyone who needs a short comprehensible guide to SPSS.

Truly useful
I really like how the book is structured from the very beginning. Clear and concise. I would have liked though a bit on how to report to an academic journal in every section of the book. That would have accomplished a 5-star rating. Good book though. Very, very useful. A must for any researcher.
