Review: Magnificent story of redemption, every child should read it! - Ten stars for the book that shaped my childhood and my future outlook on life! As a 9 year old I absorbed the book's message of optimism over despair subconsciously. Reading it again as an adult I enjoyed it just as much. It is an epic of the triumph of the human spirit and power of imagination over the darkest hours of life. Sara's generosity and self sacrifice in the face of starvation, exhaustion and despair powerfully shaped my future outlook on life and is one of the main factors in why i give to charity and sponsor children in poverty. A magnificent story in every way, every child should have the opportunity to read it. Review: Riches to Rags to Riches - This a beautifully told story of a young girl, who's life is destined to take some dramatic turns of fortune. She is a sensitive person, very aware of the feelings of others and how she might affect them. Pampered by an unscrupulous 'guardian', she is turned on by this woman, when her father dies leaving her apparently destitute. Meanwhile, our 'princess' maintains her poise and composure, not allowing her misfortune to change her outlook on life. She is still kindly and caring to those she sees as worse off than herself and discomforts the tyrannical 'guardian' by refusing to be bowed by her down turn in fortune. Eventually, her fortunes turn for the better, when someone she had not thought of as a friend, turns out to be her saviour. I have always loved The Secret Garden and this book is close on being just as good. A delightfully told story and well worth reading at any age.

A reasonable choice for a great novel
This edition has no pictures except the cover one, which is a good one (the scene of the sixpence coin). I preferred this to what I had seen elsewhere, that is, ugly pictures, which may damage the reader's vision of the novel, and understanding of the period. Of course, as a French I was rather spoiled about "A Little Princess" pictures, because we had editions with illustrations by Marc Bloch, a true wonder. Just three of them : http://images.delcampe.com/img_large/auction/000/172/275/240_003.jpg?v=1 https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTr-q5A8cCQwRFjNQRV7m7dooUi_ZiKVCMnvalSor0S9J7gJKBT1g http://www.tweedehandsfranseboeken.nl/Afbeeldingen/Burnett4.jpg When will a publisher be aware of the existence of these pictures, and use them for an original, English publication? About the novel itself, I would say, it suits very young girls only if they are quite mature (particularly, if they are intellectually gifted; and/or if their maturity has been forwarded accidentally, by woes for instance, or family misunderstanding) ; if not, I would not recommand this novel before ten. It may not please egoist girls. Boys? I really do not know. Maybe, more if they are sensitive.

Great Classic
I love this book such an amazing story , I wanted to read this book ever since I was watched the film when I was younger. I was a little surprised how different it was than the film but I'm glad in away because the story is so heart warming and really great to read.

The Little Princess
This story be an all time favourite for me. Frances Hodgson Burnett has wrote this so marvelously that when reading it one quite forgets that it is a book they read and not an occurrence of one's everyday life. I adore This book and I truly recommend it to anyone of any age, after all I, myself have been reading this story since the age of six. It is a true classic.

A Little Princess
I loved this book the minute I read the first word. Little Sara Crewe isn't really a princess, but she's got the most wonderful imagination that I know no one in real life can have. She loves her dear father so much, but he has to go to India and leaves Sara in a boarding school for young girls. She makes friends with shy Ermangarde, scullery maid Becky and unmanageable Lottie. I absolutely adore the way Sara pretends and supposes and tells enchanting tales to her friends. But, on Saras birthday, disaster strucks and Sara is treated horribly by her vulgar matrons, Miss Minchin and Miss Amelia. Nevertheless, Sara keeps her heart and imagination strong and remembers to keep her manners and conduct like a little princess would. Her fortune changes for good. Sara Crewe really is a little princess, inside and out.

Quite a good book
This book is quite a good book but in some bits it gets a bit boring!!! The actual story kine is a really nice one and quite a clever one as well! I gave it 3 stars because some bits were a bit boring and some bits i got a bit confused on. But all in all it was a good book.

A lovely storyline
I have almost finished reading this on my Kindle. It's very pleasant to read and it's definitely one of the best fictional books I've read (I'm 31 years old). It's about a little girl who goes to stay at a boarding school but life for her gets harder after she loses her princess status. It's lovely that she manages to not display any of her hurt and disappointment and for this reason it's rather inspiring. Some of the words are old fashioned and very rarely used now, so I have had to look up the meaning of several words. I have not yet got to the ending, so I'm hoping the ending is as well written as the rest of the book.

This book has been uplifting in so many ways. Though it is a children's book, it has got a lot of tidbits that are helpful reminders in difficult times.

A delightful book that I enjoyed many times as a child. Reading it from an adult perspective gives one a fresh understanding of what it was like to be poor and friendless in London of that era. I highly recommend parents to read this to their children and discuss with them the differences of that time period.
