Worked Instantly with My V-MODA BoomPro and Scarlett Solo
Verdict: The Rode VXLR+ solved a problem that basic adapters could not. It got my V-MODA BoomPro 3.5mm mic working properly with my Focusrite Scarlett Solo straight away. I bought this because standard 3.5mm to 1/4-inch adapters completely failed with my setup. I wanted to use a V-MODA BoomPro headset mic with my Scarlett Solo, and the VXLR+ worked instantly. The mic was recognised immediately, the sound quality was excellent, and I was able to get the correct preamp gain without any issues. Build quality feels solid, and it is clearly a much better solution for this kind of setup than a basic passive adapter. The removable plastic clip is also a nice extra. I also had no static or interference, as long as my headphones were connected properly to the Scarlett Solo using a 3.5mm to 1/4-inch adapter. It costs more than the cheap alternatives, but in my case those were a waste of time because they did not work at all. I would recommend this to anyone trying to connect a 3.5mm headset mic to an audio interface or preamp input. For niche setups like this, it is worth getting the right adapter first time.

Excellent build and sound quality
If you want to connect your Rode lav mic or wireless mic to a making desk with phantom power you need this device. I tried to make a lead to block phantom power reaching the output of the wireless go receiver. It worked but did introduce some noise. This device is compact and effective. it comes with a plastic clip attached to you can plug an XLR cable into the adapter and clip it to your belt. This means that there is no weight put on the lav mic. If you are plugging this device indirect into a mixing desk then you need to remove the clip. On the packaging there is a circuit diagram of the device. It does not show that magic happens inside but for a technical person it provides enough information. The XLR output is mono unbalanced. so keep cable runs short or use a DI box to create a balanced out put for longer runs. The input uss a TRS (Tip Ring Sleeve) 3.5mm jack plug. Only the Tip and Sleeve are connected. This is fine for the rode wireless go (single transmitter version) as the output of the receiver is present on moth tip and ring. If you are using the Wireless go 2 (dual transmitter version) you will either need to set output to mixed and have both transmitters on the one output. If you want to have each transmitter to have its own output then you will need two VXLR+ adapters and a SC11 TRS Splitter Cable. The receiver would then have to be switched to dual output mode. The photo above show how you would connect a Rode wireless go 2 to a mixing desk using a SC11 TRS Splitter Cable and two VXLR+ adapters. *The receiver used in the photo above is a Rode wireless receiver. It is for illustrative purposes only.

Invaluable! Amazing.
Wonderful adapter!!!!!!!! Wow! I use it to connect my 3.5mm 5v beyerdynamic MMX 330 pro headset to my XLR preamp/high end audio gear. Really sounds amazing with this method. Mic quality is so much better than PC audio mic input. Night and day. In fact I'd put a lot of bad headset mic quality down to bad PC implementation. If you have an Audio interface /outboard gear And a wired headset. This is the way to go!

Forget the +
Got this to let me plug my Smartlav into a mixer (trying out as a possible means to voice over). As soon as I switched on phantom power (to deliver plug-in power - something the VXLR+ is meant to address) I got hum on that channel (lo-cut made no difference) - experiment terminated as not workable. It works OK as a standard VXLR as long as phantom power is off as I've used it to feed from my Wireless Go receiver; however, if phantom power was then needed for anything, the hum comes in. For that application (using the WiGo as a wireless link for a roving mic) I can feed the WiGo into a TRS input via a 3.5mm to 1/4" adapter. So, OK as a plain VXLR but forget the "+" Maybe the newer VXLR Pro will be better... Update: I’ve since used it on another system and the phantom power caused no hum. So it’s a “suck it and see” - may be a mismatch with something on my mixer…

Does exactly what you think it would
Arrived quickly. Works. Does exactly what I needed it to do. The only slight negative is that it has a clip on that stopped the xlr from plugging into where it needed to plug in, but I just removed the clip and it went on.

Works 100%
Yep seems to work 100% as intended. Solid build quality. I used it to get some gaming headphones to work with my XLR audio interface. The headphones need to have a splitter to separate the audio from the mic. This item just enables you to connect the 3.5mm mic lead (of the headphones) to an XLR input (and the audio lead of the headphone just goes in the normal audio output). So far it has worked flawlessly.

A neat solution
For what this does, allowing you to phantom power a 3.5mm microphone, this is extremely effective. The results you get will depend entirely on what preamps you have in your camera or audio recorder as to the results you get. I get a noise floor of about -55db and while I'd like it to be under -60db (with the Panasonic Eva1), noise reduction plugins take care of this. I keep two in my kit bag for the dreaded day that both analog and digital wireless microphones go down during a shoot (it happened once at a trade show in London) and I was very glad I had these as the backup of the backups!

BUY NICE OR BUY TWICE. In the audio/visual world whether 'prosumer' or commercial, there are items worth investing in Llast and dont date. This adaptor is one of them. As an Australian, I buy Australian + quality whenever I can and the RØDE VXLRVXLR+ Minijack doesnt disappoint. I was impressed by the solid, weightiness of this item which imparts a feeling of quality and the clip-accessory it ships with is practical and a nice touch. It works great with xlr audio recorders (mine a Zoom H8) where you can lower the power output/gain with lavalier mics which are the most portable and cost-effective option for multi-person podcasting and travel setup. I bought two of these so far and will probably buy another few in early 2021. Great bang for buck. 5-star.
