Good quality imperial measures tape
Great quality tape, nice and sturdy, clearly marked, easy to work with, steady lock. It has imperial measurements only, down to fractions of an inch, but that's extremely useful for carpentry. Bonus — distinct colour, so won't get mixed up with other tape measures.
