Three BBC Radio 4 full-cast dramatisations starring John Shrapnel as Morse and Robert Glenister as Lewis, plus a bonus reading by Colin Dexter of one of his short stories. In Last Seen Wearing , Inspector Morse is reluctant to take over an old missing person case from a dead colleague. But two years, three months and two days after teenager Valerie Taylorโs disappearance, somebody decides to supply some surprising new evidence. . . In The Silent World of Nicholas Quinn Inspector Morse tackles the murder of an exam invigilator. The newly appointed member of the Oxford foreign exam syndicate was deaf, and he wasnโt from the insular world of the Oxford colleges. Now he is dead. After heโs rushed into hospital, Inspector Morse becomes intrigued by an old crime in The Wench is Dead . Could the wrong men have been hanged for the murder of Joanna Franks? Plus Colin Dexter reads his own short story, The Double Crossing , in which it is a good first day for a certain detective named Lewis. Gripping, suspenseful and entertaining, these BBC dramatisations were adapted by Guy Meredith from the original Inspector Morse novels by Colin Dexter. Duration: 4 hours 45 mins approx. Review: More stories from the life of the incomparable Inspector Morse. - I bought this six CD box set of Colin Dexterโs Inspector Morse stories as a gift for a member of my family. The discs come in a slimline box, with the frontispiece having an attractive view over Oxford at sunset. Each disc in the set sits on top of the previous one. This is not a particularly good way of maintaining the CDs in mint condition, but it is practical, allows for altering the order of the stories, and does save on the bulk of the box set. The set itself contains three Inspector Morse stories โ "Last Seen Wearing", "The Silent World of Nicholas Quinn", and "The Wench is Dead". So too, it has Colin Dexter reading one of his short stories, "The Double Crossing" โ with its focus on Lewis. The leading roles in the recording are played by John Shrapnel (Morse), and Robert Glenister (Lewis). It does not take too long to adjust to the lack of a Geordie accent from Glenister. His Lewis is more southerly located, whilst Shrapnel's Morse can be generally situated. Naturally, as a Morse fan myself, I have listened to some of the audiobooks. This being the case, I can report, along with the word of others in the family, that the BBC 2018 adaptations by Guy Meredith leave little to be desired. The supporting artists are most acceptable, and, overall, the readersโ diction, the background effects, and the general presentation of the stories, are of a high standard. The box set inserts give a precis of the โgripping, suspenseful, and entertainingโ plot of each story. At the current asking price, and with a running time of around 4.5 hours, the set costs around ยฃ3 per disc. This represents excellent value for a quality product. Recommended. Review: Great listen - Good old Morse you canโt go wrong

Good but for me was not the same as Lewis reading them, apart from that was ok, not brilliant though.

Excellent adaptations
The quality of these 1990s radio productions is excellent throughout. Even though I had a vague idea of some of the general plots from the tv series, the wonderful delivery of John Shrapnel as Morse and Robert Glenister's slightly different take on Lewis (from the South East as opposed to Tyneside) gave these productions a unique, stand-alone feel. They neither detracted from the tv show or were bogged down by its shadow. The supporting cast are very good and the stories skilfully crafted for radio. I hope they release more of these adaptations.
