Artist Tape for Watercolor Paper Borders, 0.6in 4 Packs 660ft Total

After reaching the age of a million and one years, I finally discovered the cheap thrills of having a clean edge while using watercolors. It wows me every time I pull the tape off. This sticks well enough to do the job but also easily peels off. Nice paper works the best but if I was slightly careful, it would peel off from inexpensive watercolor sheets from Walmart. I was in need of a few cards I wanted to send in the mail, it was important enough to me to have them receive something real. I quickly bought the paper and ordered other supplies from Amazon. So much fun! Now I can't stop, somebody help me! 😘

My wife has been using masking tape or low-tack painters’ tape for bordering pieces or for sectioning off geometric abstract neurographic or mindfulness images, but even after pressing it against cloth first to take away some of the tackiness, it still sometimes damaged the paper when removed. It can also be difficult to find smaller width masking tape. She often works with half or quarter sheet pieces and says this tape is just what she needs. The width is great for some of her smaller work, it’s tacky enough to stay in place and holds up well when used with watercolor, graphite, colored pencils or markers. It comes off easily without damaging the paper. Oddly enough, this art-specific tape that does the job perfectly is also much more reasonably priced than anything else she was using, plus she was able to find it in the sizes she was looking for.

For me, it did not have enough holding power to keep a 9x12 (140-pound) watercolor paper on a surface. So it did not prevent the buckling of the paper. It doesn't hold WC paper like typical masking tape will. For me, it was only adequate for holding down a small greeting card-sized WC painting. I let my students try it, but didn't recommend it. To remove regular masking tape w/o damaging the paper, simply heat it with a hair dryer.

Great for masking my watercolor paintings. Water will not soften the tape. Feels durable and good value. A few times, it did rip off my page, and the ink seeped through. Probably didn't place it to take off properly.

Perfect tape for straight line borders painting with oils or watercolor. The tape leaves perfect clean lines when removed, no bleeding or frayed edges of paint.

I so regret not returning this right away. It does not hold whatsoever. I have to constantly restick it while working on my painting, the edges lift if you look at them. The tape also lifts from the paper itself, so the paint gets under it. And I'm only taping a very small 2x3 watercolor paper, not even anything big. It is very low tack, it is not typical masking tape. I would avoid this tape if you do watercolor, and get something medium tack. Pros are it is very easy to peel off, so easy it even does it itself. It is also cost effective, minus the effective.

No longer sticks/seals paper onto acrylic pallet. Tried cleaning the pallet, but no success. Tossing it.

This tape is exactly what I was hoping it would be. Comes up easily on all the watercolor paper I use, even if it is down for a few days, but just enough tack to hold. It's also inexpensive compared to alternatives. As some commentators have pointed out, this tape is thin compared to a lot of other masking tape, but it has no effect on doing the job that I can tell after using it on a few pieces. The downside to the low tack is you have to be extra careful to not get some underflow if you are doing a completely soaked wash. Almost all tapes have this problem and the couple I have used that don't have way too much tack and tear paper frequently coming up. I got the half inch for partitioning full sheets into smaller sections for doing daily watercolor thumbnails, but am ordering a larger size right away for tacking down pages to working surfaces now that I have seen how well it works. Not doubting that others have had the unfortunate experiences they relate in some of these bad reviews. Cheap products often have some variability and tape is particularly prone to reacting to high heat or humidity in shipping. But when it is on this tape is great and I won't hesitate to keep buying it and just use Amazon's return policy if I should hit a bad batch.
