Slade Greatest Hits

Slade were brilliant
The 1970's were a great time for varied and upbeat music and Slade certainly hit the spot.I feel sorry for the current teenagers who are growing up with downbeat, miserable sound alike and look alike pop artists whose songs and manufactured backing music are all the same. Slade cheered you up and 50 years later they continue to do so !!

I'm Impressed
I never was a Slade fan. I always thought they were a bit corny. I had a SKY music channel on the TV the other day just to have some background music while doing some work. I heard this song that I was getting in to. Then I thought to myself "is that Slade"? So I went in and watched the video to the end and I was blown away. The song that was on was "My Oh My". I had to order this CD just for that song. Was I ever impressed! Most of the songs I remember hearing on the radio but never gave it any thought. Listening to this compilation brought back a lot of good memories. Out of 21 tracks, there's only one song I don't care for. The rest are brilliant. The only song which I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt was "Merry Christmas Everybody". That has to be Slade's signature song. I'm quite impressed with this compilation and highly recommend it for any Slade fan. Awesome compilation and I have no regrets purchasing it and neither will you.

Where did you get that hat?
Slade were one of the heaviest glam rock bands of the 70's, but never the coolest. They looked like your dad and his friends dressed up after getting drunk at Christmas, and they obviously didn't know a good hairdresser! OK, so they didn't manage to understand how to put the glam image together, but they understood how to make the best glam music. This is a fantastic collection of their early material, from the catchy 'Cos I Love You' through all their big number ones like the very loud 'Mamma We're All Crazy Now'. I'm not too sure about some of the mid 80's stuff as they never really managed to capture the early success again (hence taking one star off), but the early stuff really makes up for it. OK, let's say 4.5 stars, because none of the songs are that bad. The track order is chronological, but the best thing is that they have put 'Merry Xmas Everybody' at the end so that you can stop the CD if you're not in a Christmas mood. There's nothing worse than a Christmas song popping up half way through a CD!They were the first band to get songs going straight in to number one since the Beatles, and this wasn't repeated until the advent of the Jam some years later. It might not seem a big thing now with manufactured bollocks going straight in to number one on the back of some crappy TV show, but it's easy to forget that you had to sell about 10 times as many singles back then to get a number one.I completely forgive the bad clothes and bad haircuts every time I hear these songs again though!

These songs really were hits
It's easy to forget how many hits Slade had back in the day. Well, perhaps it is if you weren't such a big Slade fan. I was a big fan, came across this CD at Amazon, bought it and realised I'm still a big Slade fan.I'll admit, Slade may not have been the crème de la crème when it came to individual members' musical prowess, but on the other hand they had a great songwriting team in Holder/Lea... and that voice!! Noddy surely has one of the finest voices in rock music to have ever come out of Britain. This collection/selection is put together very well. It's basically in the order that the songs were hits, so starting in 1971 and continuing up to 1984. It finished off with "Merry Xmas Everybody" and I think it was smart to leave that one to last. You may not always be in the humour for a Christmas song, so if not you can skip it but if so you can let it run. This collection of songs shows that Slade were perfectly capable of writing great songs and having hits... even after they learned to spell properly! :-)

Noddy's voice, the drive of the music - yeah.
Cum On Feel The Noize. It takes me back to my almost mythical youth. These are simple pop tunes but have raw pop power too. Even after all these decades I love "Mama Weer All Crazee Now"Great drive in the songs and Noddy's voice is amazing. The only issue which is common to almost all pop is that they are too repetitive which means that I can't listen to them that often. I really enjoy them when I do though.
