Does this battery come with necessary cords for recharging & connecting to GoTo base?

Yes, it comes with the cable to connect directly to the telescopes power input as well as a charging cord. It lasts for along time on my Celestron 9.25 gps xlt. Just charge it, plug it in and go.

will this unit work in tandem with the installed telescope batteries (8 AA)?

Yes, I have both. The telescope go-to works much better with the powertank, but I still use the batteries to position the telescope for set up or take down.

How long is the cord?

From battery to telescope is 6 feet. Charging cord is 4 feet.
